Exposing Myself! The Best of 2010 Nail Trends

Back when the hardest decision I had to make was googling what nail inspo I wanted 😂

It cracks me up how amazed I was by random line art. I thought it was elite.

Especially the first photo.. they were everything and more.

Flared

French

Lines w colors I let them choose

Raise your hand if as soon as you were done at the salon and got in the car you took a picture of your nails feeling like a million bucks and posting it. Just waiting for your girlies to try and top them.

But sometimes taking a look back at old memories like this bring my mental back to a place of feeling safe. Knowing I was an “adult” but still a kid with so much to learn. It shows me how I just went with the trends and didn’t actually get what I wanted. I would pick and color and the nail tech or my friend would (w/o me asking them) tell me oh no that’s ugly. And I would immediately change it. But to please who? Clearly not myself.

Though this is a silly example but it brought up memories of doubt I always had in myself and now at 31 I am firm in who I am. With a lot more growing to do but gosh dang it now I can fully stand behind my nail color no matter what anyone thinks. That confidence grows as you grow.

... Read moreHey everyone! Diving deep into the archives today to revisit those iconic 2010 nail trends that defined our millennial aesthetic. I know I'm not alone when I say the early 2010s were a wild ride for nail art, full of bold choices and creative flair. What were your go-to looks back then? One trend I absolutely remember rocking were the flared French nails. They weren't your classic white tips; these had a bit more personality, often with vibrant colors or even glitter diagonals like purple, turquoise, or silver. It was a step up from traditional French, making a subtle yet stylish statement. If you're thinking of bringing them back, try updating them with a matte finish or a different color combo for a fresh feel. Then there were the unapologetically bright hues. Hot pink nails with an accent nail featuring a delicate blue and purple butterfly design? Absolutely! Or those striking square-shaped nails adorned with abstract black, white, and clear swirls, sometimes with a touch of glitter. I remember thinking these were the peak of sophistication at the time, even if I wasn't always sure what my 'inspo' was! These designs really allowed for a burst of creativity and individuality. Seasonal nails were also a huge thing. Who didn't get an anchor nail as soon as summer hit? Or those festive red and gold glitter combinations around the holidays? And Valentine's Day nails often featured cute red bow designs or white and red abstract patterns. It was all about matching your nails to the occasion, making every event feel a little more special. We can't forget the magic of ombre! Pink ombre tips fading into a clear base with glitter were a personal favorite for many, offering a dreamy, ethereal look. And the color-changing gel? That was truly revolutionary! Just add water, and your vibrant pink and purple nails transformed. It felt like something straight out of the future. Looking back, these 2010 nail trends were more than just polish; they were a reflection of a time when social media was booming, and self-expression through small details became accessible to everyone. We experimented, we shared, and we often followed what our friends or favorite celebrities were doing. It’s funny how much we evolved from just following trends to finding our own voice, even in something as small as a nail color. These designs bring back so many memories of trying new things and embracing that unique millennial style. What 2010 nail look would you love to see make a comeback?
