Fun fanart!
Hey everyone! I'm so excited to finally share this cowboy AU fanart of Shoto Todoroki that I've been working on. It was such a fun challenge to take a character from My Hero Academia and imagine him in a completely different setting. The idea of a 'cowboy AU' just kept popping into my head, and I couldn't resist bringing it to life! When I first started sketching, I really thought about what makes a cowboy, well, a cowboy. It's not just the hat and the boots, right? It's the ruggedness, the determination, maybe a hint of solitude. For Shoto, I wanted to capture his iconic dual nature but blend it seamlessly into a Wild West vibe. Think about the colors – the dusty browns and leathery textures, contrasting with his icy and fiery powers. It's about finding that balance. Creating fanart, especially an Alternate Universe (AU) piece, is one of my favorite things to do. It lets you explore characters you love in new and unexpected ways. For example, while I was brainstorming this cowboy AU, I also thought about other fun AUs I've seen or would love to try – like a cyberpunk AU, or even something whimsical like a mermaid AU, which always has such a unique charm! It's like taking your favorite toys and giving them a whole new playground to run around in. It really stretches your creative muscles and often leads to unexpected and delightful results. For those of you who might be wondering how to approach drawing a cowboy character, whether it's an original creation or fanart, here are a few things I keep in mind. First, research is key! Look at historical cowboy attire, classic Western films, and even modern interpretations. Pay attention to details like bandanas, spurs, belts, and holsters – they add so much character. Don't forget the posture; cowboys often have a distinctive stance, whether they're leaning against a fence, riding a horse, or just standing tall. I always try to think about the story behind the pose. Is he relaxed, ready for action, or just taking a moment to observe the vast landscape? Another tip is to consider the environment. A dusty, windswept background can really enhance the feeling of the Wild West. And don't shy away from adding props! A trusty steed, a lasso, or even just a worn canteen can add depth and context to your art. For my Shoto piece, I imagined him in a desolate, rocky terrain, which I think really complements his sometimes stoic demeanor. The most important thing for me when creating any fanart is to have fun with it. Don't be afraid to experiment and let your imagination run wild. Whether you're drawing your own cowboy fanart, exploring a different AU for your favorite characters, or even diving into other fandoms like BT21 or Swat Kats, the joy is in the creation. Sharing your art with others is just the cherry on top. I hope this gives you a little peek into my artistic process and maybe inspires you to try your hand at some Western-themed art too! What kind of AU would you love to see next for a character?
