Books if you love Bridgerton

... Read moreOh, the agony of waiting for a new season of Bridgerton! If you're anything like me, you've rewatched every episode, scoured social media for crumbs of news, and are now desperately searching for something to fill that Regency-era, scandal-filled, romantic void. Trust me, I've been there! That's why I dove headfirst into historical romance novels, and I've found some absolute gems that I think you, my fellow Bridgerton enthusiast, will adore. First up, let's talk about 'The Davenports' by Krystal Marquis. While it's set in the Gilded Age rather than the Regency era, it captures that same vibrant, high-society drama with a delightful twist. Imagine a wealthy Black family in Chicago, navigating love, ambition, and societal expectations. It's got the family dynamics, the dazzling balls, and the quest for love that makes Bridgerton so captivating, but with a fresh perspective. I found myself completely swept away by the characters and their intertwining stories – definitely a must-read if you appreciate strong female leads and rich historical detail! Next on my list is 'Aphrodite and the Duke' by J.J. McAvoy. If you're craving that classic Duke-and-spinster trope, or perhaps a spirited heroine who challenges convention, this one is for you. It's brimming with witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and enough scandalous whispers to keep any Bridgerton fan hooked. I loved seeing the protagonists navigate their complicated feelings amidst the strictures of society, much like our beloved Daphne and Simon. Now, for those who enjoy a bit more intrigue and a strong, resilient heroine, look no further than Vanessa Riley's 'A Gamble at Sunset'. This book captivated me with its compelling plot and characters who defied expectations. Riley is a master at crafting historical romances that are not only passionate but also deeply thoughtful, often shining a light on underrepresented voices in history. And if you love her style, you absolutely must pick up 'A Duke, The Lady, and A Baby' also by Vanessa Riley. This one has a truly unique premise – a duke finding himself unexpectedly caring for a baby, and the woman who steps in to help. It's tender, heartwarming, and full of the kind of emotional depth that makes you root for the characters every step of the way. Finally, for a slightly different flavor of historical romance, I wholeheartedly recommend 'Rebel' by Beverly Jenkins. Jenkins is a legend in the genre, known for her powerful stories often set in post-Civil War America. 'Rebel' features a strong, independent woman and a passionate, honorable man, navigating their relationship against a backdrop of significant historical change. While not Regency, it delivers on the passion, the historical immersion, and the unforgettable characters that make Bridgerton so beloved. I found myself absolutely falling for the main characters and their journey. So, if you're patiently (or not-so-patiently!) waiting for the next dose of Bridgerton magic, pick up one of these books. They've certainly helped me get through the long wait, and I hope they bring you as much joy and escapism as they brought me!
