Military Edition - Service

✨ Unpopular Opinion ✨

As a service member in the military, I’m proud to serve my country. I’m proud of what I’ve done thus far and a career that has taken me to amazing places.

But, as a mom later in my life (30s) and raising two girls with my husband (also service member) I have heavily thought this out.

Despite our service I prefer my daughters do not serve in the military. To me, we have done what is needed to support this country in hopes that we will leave it better than when we entered. But, we did this so they don’t have to. I hope they seek service in other ways to help others, the environment, solve significant problems, and more. I only want the best for them.

I’ve spoken with many parents that are serving, that don’t see it the way I do. They of course would support it and because their lives are better because of it, that their children should follow their steps. But, I still find it a very personal choice.

However, at 18, when they are adults the choice will still be their own. If they do decided to join, I’ll have no choice but to support it.

Anyone else feel this way? Is my outlook proper?

My husband still serves, I am a veteran and we both prefer our kids not to unless they truly want to. There is many reasons as to why people say yes and no, at the end of the day to each their own ❤️
