Becoming Her at 40
Turning 40 has been one of the most liberating experiences of my life. I don’t say that lightly. It’s not just about age—it’s about awareness. I’ve never felt more grounded, more free, and more sure of who I am. If you’re in your 20s or 30s and feel like you’re still figuring it all out… give yourself grace. You are not late. You are becoming.
Here are 5 things my 40s are teaching me:
1. I don’t have to prove anything to be worthy
I spent too many years trying to be enough for people who didn’t even know how to hold me. Now I just rest in who I am. I don’t chase validation. I don’t shrink. I just show up as me.
2. Peace is a priority, not a luxury
I used to pour from a place that was running on empty. Now I slow down. I listen to my body. I honor what I need. If it costs me my peace, I don’t entertain it.
3. Joy doesn’t need a reason
I used to wait for something big to happen before I allowed myself to feel happy. These days, I light the candle, take the walk, make the playlist, thank God for breath. That’s enough reason.
4. Every version of me mattered
The version of me that didn’t know her worth, the one who doubted herself, the one who kept going anyway — I love her. She got me here. I don’t carry shame for who I was, I carry grace.
5. I’m not for everyone, and I’m finally okay with that
I used to feel the need to explain myself, to be palatable, to soften the truth of who I am. Not anymore. If I’m too much for someone, they can simply choose less.
If you’re in your 20s or 30s… take your time. You’re not late. There’s no timeline for healing or becoming. Just keep showing up — soft, true, and honest. God’s not rushing you.
