I wrote this poem on a whim before clocking in yesterday—my first poem! I’m kinda proud.
I wrote it because sometimes, I just want to exist. No responsibilities. No lows. Just to live without the weight of the world on me.
I’m only 21, and already, life has felt incredibly overwhelming. So it’s not that I’m unappreciative of each day I wake up—it’s just that sometimes, I envy river water, rocks, and other elements that simply get to be.
In my poem, I express a yearning for freedom, drawing parallels to nature and life. I liken my desire for simplicity to elements like leaves, ocean waves, and drifting clouds. The beauty of nature embodies a sense of serenity and joy that I crave. Life can often feel overwhelming, especially at a young age like 21, where responsibilities and expectations loom large. However, it's essential to take a step back and appreciate the small moments that define our existence. Finding joy in the present, like a calm night by the ocean or the gentle flow of a river, reminds us that life is about balance. To 'just be' is a powerful sentiment that many resonate with. It reflects a desire to experience life with less burden, embodying joy, and appreciating every fleeting moment. Poetry serves as a therapeutic outlet, allowing us to articulate our innermost thoughts and feelings.
