What I wasn’t told
So I see a lot of people talking about college and these are what I wasn’t told
1- how cliquey it actually is
Ngl it is like high school with the cliques and how excluded you will feel if you aren’t in one right away
2- the food
No matter what the school food will go through you so fast if you eat from the cafeteria
3- homesickness
I had always been told about it but never thought it would actually happen but it does and it hits you like a rock and all you want to do is go home. It will get bad some days guys and that’s okay I promise
4- roommates
You are either best friends, hate eachother, or they are neverrrr there (which if they aren’t it’s cool to “have ur own room” but it brings home sickness faster)
5- the professors
Some are cool and fun but others are so smart and know what they are doing but they don’t make eye contact and are very sociably akward which can really distract you from the teaching. And some do not engage at all
That is all I have for now (I’m half asleep lol)
But keep going don’t quit you got this❤️
When stepping into college, incoming students often have specific expectations shaped by high school or popular culture. However, college is a unique experience that presents challenges many are unprepared for. One of the first surprises is the social landscape; most find that college can replicate the cliquishness of high school, making social integration tough at first. It can feel disheartening to be on the outside looking in, especially in those crucial first weeks. Moreover, the food served can be far from the gourmet dining experiences portrayed in advertisements. Many students report quick digestion from cafeteria meals, which can lead to discomfort. Thus, knowing what to expect regarding campus dining is essential. Homesickness is another common occurrence, often hitting students much harder than anticipated. While most have heard about it, experiencing it firsthand is different. Students may find themselves longing for home comforts, a reality that universities often don't prepare new students for adequately. Roommate situations can vary greatly, with some students forming lifelong friendships, while others may clash entirely or face the challenge of having rarely home roommates. The dynamics are as diverse as the student body itself, and managing these relationships is crucial for mental well-being. Finally, there’s the unpredictability of professors' teaching styles. While some may engage effortlessly and create an enjoyable learning environment, others might be less socially adept, leading to distractions during lectures. Understanding varying teaching methods is important for adapting and thriving academically. If you're navigating these trials, know you're not alone. Many experienced upperclassmen have been in your shoes, and finding community support can make all the difference. Remember, it's perfectly okay to seek help and share experiences with fellow students.
