SUNSET OOTD (comfy + casual)

One of my favorite things about living in Florida is catching the sunset whenever I can. Something about being on the beach when the colors start to fade gives me so much peace and relaxation. Something a lot of people don’t know about Florida is that when the sun goes down, it can get very chilly especially when you are near water. That is why some days I like to dress super cozy and casual for a sunset while still looking cute and put together. This is one of my favorite outfit combos.

I paired a mini skirt with an oversized striped long sleeve And some fuzzy slides. It’s the perfect combination to watch the sun go down with friends and family. #lemon8partner #floridaoutfitinspo #sunsetoutfit

But as any local knows, the beauty comes with a practical consideration: it can get surprisingly chilly, especially by the water! That's why striking the perfect balance between cozy comfort and effortless style is key for your sunset OOTD. While my go-to combo of a dark mini skirt with an oversized striped long-sleeve shirt and fuzzy slides hits all the right notes for me, I've got even more tips to help you nail your next beach sunset look and capture those "beach girl photo" moments. Beyond the Basics: More Casual Sunset Outfit Ideas If you're looking for alternatives or want to mix things up, here are a few other casual sunset outfit inspirations that work wonderfully for those cooler Florida evenings: Denim Darling: A pair of high-waisted denim shorts or jeans paired with a loose-fitting knit sweater or a long-sleeved graphic tee. This offers classic comfort and warmth. Flowy & Free: A midi or maxi sundress made from a breathable fabric like cotton or linen. While these might seem light, pairing them with a light cardigan or a denim jacket can keep you snug. Plus, they look incredible as the "skirt wind" catches them for those dreamy photos! Jumpsuit Joy: A casual, wide-leg jumpsuit is another fantastic one-and-done option. Easy to move in, comfortable, and can be dressed up or down. Mastering the 'Skirt Wind' for Photos & Comfort The "skirt wind" query is so relatable! We all want that effortlessly breezy look without any wardrobe malfunctions. Here’s how I manage my dark mini skirt (or any skirt) for those windy beach days: Fabric Choice Matters: Opt for skirts that have a bit of weight to them or are made of a slightly stiffer fabric. My mini skirt is usually a good weight. Very light, wispy fabrics are beautiful but can be a challenge. Strategic Layering: If you're wearing a shorter skirt, consider throwing on a pair of comfortable bike shorts underneath. They offer peace of mind, especially when posing for photos or just walking along the shore. Pose with Purpose: For photos, embrace the wind! Let your skirt flow, but be mindful of your angles. A slight turn or a hand subtly holding the hem can make all the difference. Sometimes, the wind catching my striped long-sleeve shirt can also add a dynamic element to the shot. Golden Hour Gems: How to Get the Best Beach Girl Photos Those sunset colors are simply magical, making it the ultimate backdrop for "beach girl photo" sessions. Here’s how to make your outfit shine: Embrace the Golden Hour: The hour leading up to sunset offers the softest, most flattering light. Position yourself so the sun is behind you (backlighting) for a beautiful halo effect, or to your side for warm, rich tones. Capture Movement: Don't just stand still! Walk along the shore, twirl a little (especially if you have a flowy skirt), or look out at the ocean. This adds dynamism and tells a story. Focus on Details: Don't forget to get close-ups of your outfit details – the texture of your oversized striped long-sleeve shirt, the unique fuzzy slides, or any accessories. Natural Props: Use the environment! A piece of driftwood, a seashell, or simply the vastness of the ocean can enhance your photos. Remember, the goal is always to feel good and enjoy the moment. Whether you're in my favorite mini skirt and striped long-sleeve combo or another casual look, make sure it allows you to fully soak in the beauty of the sunset. Happy sunset chasing!
