I know during the summer I get super bored because I instantly go from doing so much in college and stressing out over everything to doing absolutely nothing and working. So when I have free time I feel like I’m always on my phone and that is what I’m trying to avoid because I want to enjoy my days and feel productive!!
So here are some things that you can do when you’re bored:
1: Paint Rocks 🪨
-around our house we have a lot of little stones and rocks and I have paint markers and paint so I’m deciding that I’m going to paint them to put in a jar
2: Make your own tote bag 🖍️
-I love tote bags and sometimes I feel like I don’t have one that represents me, so you can paint what you want on the bag!
3: Letting Go Plates 🍽️
-this is something I have been wanting to do for a long time but I haven’t actually done it. I feel like putting everything that I’m letting go of in my life and smashing it so that I release from my mind and body will help me mentally.
4: Chalk 🌈
-bring out your inner child
5: Have a sleepover in a fort 🍃
6: Scrapbook 📔
- I have been wanting to do this as well because I have so many pictures that I want to print out and put it in a scrapbook so I don’t have to do it later down the road. Plus I have time to do it now and I can make it super pretty!
... Read moreI totally get that feeling of summer boredom, especially after a busy college semester! It’s like your brain suddenly has too much free space and doesn’t know what to do with it. We all want to feel productive and enjoy our days, not just scroll on our phones. So, building on some of the fun ideas already shared, I wanted to dive deeper and add even more ways to beat that boredom, whether you’re flying solo, hanging with friends, or visiting cousins!
Let’s start with getting those creative juices flowing. You know how satisfying it is to make something with your hands. Beyond painting rocks (a personal favorite—I love leaving them around for others to find!), why not try upcycling old clothes into a custom tote bag? Grab some fabric paints and let your imagination run wild. You could even organize a community chalk art day and bring your inner child out with vibrant designs on the sidewalk. And for those who love memories, scrapbooking is amazing. If you have tons of pictures like me, printing them out and creating a physical book is so rewarding. But don’t forget digital scrapbooking too, or even just creating themed photo albums online! Another cool craft could be learning something new, like knitting or crocheting – imagine making a cute little crocheted flower decoration for your car, like I’ve seen some people do!
When it comes to mind and wellness, there are some truly cathartic activities. The 'Letting Go Plates' idea is powerful; physically smashing something after writing down what you want to release can be incredibly therapeutic for your mind and body. Pair that with journaling, which can take so many forms. You could start a gratitude journal, a bullet journal, or even a mood tracker for the month to help you understand your emotions better. And yes, cleaning your room might not sound 'fun,' but a decluttered space often leads to a clearer mind. Take it a step further and organize a specific drawer or closet you've been avoiding. Or for a completely different mental boost, try learning a few phrases in a new language online, or dive into a book from a 'Lemon8 book club' recommendation!
Now, for some social and outdoor adventures, especially perfect for summer. You've heard about having a sleepover in a fort, which is always a blast. Why not take it outside for a backyard campout under the stars, complete with an outdoor movie night? And for those days when you’re with friends or, as many of us do, visiting cousins, the possibilities are endless! Plan a themed picnic at a local park or even in your backyard – think gourmet sandwiches, fresh fruit, and homemade lemonade. If you're lucky enough to be near water, going to the beach is a classic. Build sandcastles, swim, collect shells, or just relax with a good book. Beyond that, consider a mini weekend trip to explore a nearby town, a scenic hiking trail, or even just trying out a new local cafe. The goal is to break the routine and make new memories.
Remember, the key is to find what genuinely sparks joy and helps you feel productive. Don't be afraid to try something new or revisit an old favorite. There are truly 100s of things to do when you're bored in summer, and this is just scratching the surface. What will you try first?
