Watch me discover my randomly assigned bacteria
This was such a fun lab project! But I'm also just happy to be done with microbiology :)
Microbiology is a fascinating field that explores the tiniest life forms that influence our world. Understanding bacteria, including gram-negative bacilli and the various tests used to identify them, can be crucial not just in academic settings, but in real-world applications as well. For instance, differentiating between weak and strong fermenters has far-reaching implications in healthcare and food safety. In my lab project, I encountered significant challenges with the Gram staining process, where results can often be mixed. The pink/red coloration indicated gram-negative bacteria, but the approach to confirming species requires multiple tests including EMB and citrate slant tests. Further experimentation revealed insights into bacterial growth characteristics, essential for any microbiologist. Additionally, learning about the morphological characteristics, such as cell shape and staining results, bolsters our understanding of microbial taxonomy. This knowledge can pave the way for impressive advancements in medical microbiology, where such distinctions could lead to breakthroughs in treatment and prevention strategies. Overall, the project was not just an exercise in academic rigor but a window into the complex world of microbiology.

This was my favorite lab in all of college lol my lab partner and I had so much fun doing it
