i am the girl behind the camera

i am the girl behind the camera who goes above and beyond.

capturing friends smiles, getting the good angles, checking the lighting, complimenting their poses, and just trying to hold on to their beauty in that moment forever!

when it comes to me, i don’t exactly know what to do with my hands, my face, or my posture. i start to pick and prick over little things that maybe don’t look the best.

i was looking through some old pictures of me. i realized something i do not like!!

i look at myself with hate. i make fun of myself, my posture, my face. i degrade myself because of how i appear. and i just realized, how weird!

how weird it is we can be the kindest souls to everyone around us, but when it comes to us we are our meanest critics?

i mean…the toxicity i have for myself.

the cover picture was taken a few year ago! but the next two slides showcase some examples of my own self hatred, get in the way.

in the first picture, i was fixing my hair, and i looked at myself with the worst RBF stare i have ever seen! the look up and down made me laugh. i look so mean!

in the second picture i added a necklace. this was right before i had a mental break down:( i can’t make out what i was saying, but i’m sure it was very degrading- i mean my hands were shaking pretty hard.

i want to devote myself this year to self love. i need to stay positive. lose the toxicity i hold for myself. the past is the past. the future is what counts, and it’s time all of me loves me! #bodypositivity #selfcare #selflove #tips #unaesthetic #healthylifestyle2024 #Lemon8Diary #photography

... Read moreIn today's society, many individuals struggle with self-acceptance and often become their harshest critics, especially in an age of social media. Capturing memories through photography can bring joy, yet it can also magnify one’s insecurities. For many, like the author, reflecting on old photos reveals deeper issues with self-image, leading to a yearning for self-love and positivity. The importance of body positivity cannot be overstated. Learning to deeply appreciate oneself, flaws and all, is a vital step towards mental well-being. Engaging in self-care practices can further aid in this process, from therapy and mindfulness exercises to simply surrounding oneself with supportive friends. Moreover, the mental benefits of focusing on self-love extend to physical health, as happier individuals often lead healthier lifestyles. By prioritizing mental wellness, we allow ourselves the freedom to enjoy life's beautiful moments without the weight of negative self-perceptions. This journey toward self-acceptance, particularly for those behind the lens, invites all to cherish their unique beauty and embrace who they are. If you're on a similar journey, remember that the past does not dictate your future; it's about the love you cultivate for yourself now!
