Embracing my mom bod 🤍

2024/3/5 Edited to

... Read moreIt's incredible how our bodies transform through life, especially after significant events like pregnancy or major weight loss. I remember looking in the mirror and seeing a completely different person. The loose skin on my belly, the stretch marks that tell a story, and the scars from my c-section were all new companions. It wasn't just physical; there was an emotional ripple effect, too. For a while, I struggled with the extra skin from weight loss, feeling like it was a constant reminder of a past self, or a future self I hadn't quite reached yet. And let's not forget the hair loss many of us experience – it can feel like another piece of ourselves is disappearing. But through it all, I've learned that these are not flaws, but rather badges of my journey. My 'mom bod' isn't just about motherhood; it's about life's adventures, its challenges, and its triumphs. It’s about accepting the canvas you’re given and finding beauty in its unique texture. I used to spend so much time wishing things were different, comparing myself to unrealistic ideals. Now, I try to see the strength in these changes. That loose skin? It held a beautiful baby or represents a healthier me. Those scars? They healed me. And speaking of habits, who else is with me on the nervous nail biting front? Whether it’s when I'm nervous, anxious, or just plain bored, it's a habit I've had for ages. It's funny how some of these small, personal quirks become part of our identity. For a long time, I felt self-conscious about it, trying to hide my hands. But just like my body, I'm learning to acknowledge these little things without judgment. Sometimes, just being aware of why I'm doing it – feeling anxious about a deadline or just needing a moment of distraction – helps. Embracing vulnerability isn't about loving every single 'imperfection' overnight. It's a gradual process of kindness toward yourself. It's about looking in the mirror and saying, 'This is me, and I'm okay.' It's recognizing that the media often shows a very filtered, often unattainable, version of reality. Our true bodies, with their extra skin, their stretch marks, their scars, and even their nervous habits, are real, they are strong, and they are beautiful. If you're reading this and nodding along, know that you're not alone in any of these feelings. We're all on a journey of self-acceptance, and every step, no matter how small, is a victory. Let's celebrate our authentic selves, together.
