... Read moreIt's so easy to look back and see the gradual changes that led to significant weight gain, but when you're in it, it can feel so confusing and overwhelming. My journey with weight gain felt so mysterious for a long time, but looking back, one of the biggest turning points was starting my birth control implant. I was on it for five years, and during that time, I saw my weight steadily climb. It wasn't just a few pounds; my body underwent a massive transformation, leading to a 150 lbs weight gain. At first, I didn't connect the dots, but hearing other women's stories about Nexplanon weight gain or other hormonal birth control methods made me realize I wasn't alone. It's not just about calories in, calories out when hormones are at play. My body seemed to hold onto weight no matter what, and it was incredibly frustrating. If you're experiencing similar unexplained weight gain, especially after starting or changing birth control, it's definitely worth discussing with your doctor. There are so many options out there, and finding one that works with your body, not against it, is crucial.
Beyond the hormonal shifts, my lifestyle took a huge hit. Before, I was pretty active, but life happens, right? Becoming a stay-at-home mom was a blessing, but it also meant my daily movement plummeted. Suddenly, my routine revolved around the baby, and my own physical activity became non-existent. It’s hard to prioritize yourself when you have little ones. This reduced activity, combined with what felt like slowing hormones as I got older, created a perfect storm for weight gain. I used to wonder, 'why am I gaining weight so fast?' even when my diet didn't feel drastically different. But the truth was, my energy expenditure had changed dramatically. Even small things like taking the stairs or walking instead of driving made a difference before; now, those habits were gone. It’s not about hitting the gym for hours every day, especially when you're busy. It's about finding little ways to move: a walk around the block with the stroller, dancing with your kids, or even just doing some stretches during nap time. Every bit of movement adds up.
And then there was the food. Oh, the convenience of DoorDash! When you’re exhausted and time-poor, ordering in seems like the easiest solution. But frequent DoorDash and fast food consumption became a huge factor in my 150 lbs weight gain. It wasn't just the occasional treat; it became a regular habit. The portion sizes, the hidden calories, the unhealthy fats – it all added up incredibly quickly. I used to think I wasn't eating that much more, but when you're consistently eating out, it's hard to track. One thing I've learned is that even small changes can make a difference. Trying to cook at home a few more times a week, planning meals, or even just making healthier choices when ordering takeout – like opting for grilled chicken instead of fried, or a side salad instead of fries. It’s a journey of small steps, not an overnight fix. I’m still working on finding a balance that works for me and my family, but acknowledging these habits was the first crucial step.
I’m sharing my story not to dwell on the past, but to empower anyone feeling stuck. My 150 lbs weight gain was a wake-up call, and understanding the causes – from birth control to lifestyle shifts and diet habits – has been incredibly eye-opening. You're not alone if you're wondering, 'what caused my weight gain?' It's often a combination of factors, and sometimes, those factors are completely out of your immediate control. But once you identify them, you can start making informed choices for your health and well-being. It’s a transformation journey, and I’m excited to share what I’m doing next to get back on track. Stay tuned!
I was on depo on and off for years and switched recent to a the mini pill and Ive lost over 10 lbs in the last few months since then. The shot and the implant are not good forms IMO. The weight gain was ridiculous
I had the implant as well I’ve had it since my son was 2 (I’ve gotten 2 replaced over the years) I just got it removed back in April and have gained 100 plus pounds since I’ve been on it as well. Trying to get my health better and lose weight.
