A few months after having my baby, I didn’t feel like myself. I wasn’t crying every day. I wasn’t hiding under the covers. But I was snapping over nothing. My fuse was short. And even when the baby slept, I couldn’t. My mind wouldn’t shut off.
I chalked it up to hormones, sleep deprivation, being a new mom… But deep down, I knew it was more than that. And so did my husband. He gently asked if I was okay. And for once, I told the truth: I wasn’t.
I started anxiety medication. And little by little, the fog lifted. I could breathe. I could rest. I could respond instead of react. It didn’t fix everything, but it gave me the space to come back to myself.
So yes, I look happier. Because I got help. Because I stopped trying to “mom through it.” Because I realized survival mode isn’t a badge of honor.
