Things that help during a POTS flare: Part three

2 days agoEdited to

... Read moreLiving with POTS while parenting presents unique challenges, but organizing your environment can make a huge difference during flares. One of the most helpful strategies I've found is keeping essential medicines within arm’s reach in everyday spaces like the living room or bedroom. This simple step saves energy and prevents unnecessary movement when symptoms worsen. Having protein-rich snacks by the bed also helps maintain energy levels throughout the day. I recommend stocking a small drawer or container nearby with easy-to-eat options like nuts, cheese sticks, or protein bars. These snacks can counteract fatigue and dizziness associated with POTS flares. Creating toddler-safe spaces and having lower shelves for your child’s belongings fosters independence while reducing the need for you to bend or reach frequently, which can worsen symptoms. Setting up snack drawers and pre-packed diaper bags saves precious time and energy, allowing you to focus on self-care. Automatic subscriptions for necessities like diapers and supplements simplify life by reducing the mental load during tough days. Accepting shortcuts, such as using play couches or symptom-friendly clothes, can help you conserve energy without compromising your child’s needs. Over time, I’ve realized that duplicating essentials—like having backup medications or favorite snacks in multiple rooms—prevents unnecessary movement and stress. Finally, maintaining an easy breakfast rotation ensures you can quickly prepare nourishing meals without feeling overwhelmed. These strategies are not only practical but tailored to the realities of parenting with POTS, empowering you to handle flare-ups better while still being there for your little ones.
