Gym Girl Pre-Workout Snacks🍎🏋🏻♀️
For my gym girlies who need some healthy snack inspo!
I usually train first thing in the morning, so a full on breakfast isn’t ideal for me, but having some quick-digesting carbs before my workout gives me just the right amount of fuel that make me feel ready to crush my workout, but not feel heavy and bogged down!
🏋🏻♀️ 1 Apple & 1-2 dates. Gives me that caramel apple taste😋
🏋🏻♀️ 2 caramel rice cakes with tbsp of PB2Fit
🏋🏻♀️ Berries! A high volume food that leaves me feeling a perfect balance of full, but still feeling light!
🏋🏻♀️ Protein Banana Nut muffins. 😍 Made from whole ingredients & SF choc. chips. BEST!
Finding the perfect pre-workout snack can truly make or break your training session, especially when you're an early bird like me who doesn't want to feel weighed down by a big meal. It’s all about getting that quick energy boost to power through, without causing digestive discomfort. Let's dive deeper into why these snacks are my absolute favorites and how you can make them work for you! Apples & Dates: The Ultimate Natural Energy Boost My go-to combo of crisp apple slices and soft, sweet dates is a game-changer. The natural sugars in dates provide an immediate, easily digestible energy source, perfect for a quick pick-me-up right before you hit the weights or cardio machine. Paired with the fiber from apple slices, you get a more sustained release of energy, preventing that dreaded sugar crash. I love how dates, especially a single pitted date, feel like a little caramel treat! If you're pressed for time, even a small handful of dried apple rings can work wonders. Rice Cakes with Peanut Butter: Fast Carbs, Good Fats Rice cakes are incredibly versatile and a fantastic base for quick carbs. They're light, crunchy, and absorb toppings beautifully. While I love PB2Fit for a lower-fat option, don't be afraid to use a thin spread of natural peanut butter – it adds healthy fats that can help with satiety and provide a bit more sustained energy, along with that delicious nutty flavor. You can also experiment with other toppings like a thin layer of cottage cheese and a sprinkle of cinnamon for a protein boost, or even some mashed avocado for healthy fats. The key is to keep the portion small to avoid feeling too full. Berries: Antioxidant Powerhouses Never underestimate the power of berries! Fresh strawberries and blackberries are not just delicious; they're packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and are high in water content, contributing to hydration. As a high-volume food, they fill you up without adding many calories, making you feel perfectly balanced – full enough to tackle your workout but light enough to move freely. For an extra kick, try mixing a handful of berries into a small container of plain Greek yogurt for added protein, turning it into a mini, creamy pre-workout parfait. Protein Banana Nut Muffins: Homemade Fuel on the Go When I have a bit more time for prep, homemade protein banana nut muffins are a dream! Knowing exactly what goes into them means I can control the sugar and maximize the whole ingredients. Adding a few chocolate chips makes them feel like a treat, giving me that extra motivation. These are fantastic for busy mornings when you need something grab-and-go. The combination of complex carbs from the banana and flour, healthy fats from nuts, and protein powder makes them a well-rounded option that keeps you fueled and focused. I often bake a batch on Sunday to have ready for the week ahead. Ultimately, listening to your body is key. Experiment with different quantities and timings to find what makes you feel your best. A small, nutrient-dense snack 30-60 minutes before your workout can truly elevate your performance and leave you feeling energized and ready to crush your goals!
