While I do listen to audiobooks in the car and around the house, the most listening I do is at the gym. Typically I listen to a nonfiction book, but this month it’s Alexandra Rowland’s hilariously unserious queer pirate book, Running Close to the Wind.
From Avra’s witchy luck and silly antics, to Captain Tev’s eternal frustration and teeth grinding (even though the spooky dentist told them NOT to grind their teeth), and to Julian’s very unfortunate vow of celibacy, the characters really shine through this comedic plot.
The audiobook narrator, Casey Jones, also does an exceptional job- I can’t imagine reading this and NOT listening to it!!!
I’m currently about 30% of the way through this book and I am enjoying every minute 🏴☠️

Slide 1: A 20-something white woman, with her hair in a bun and headphones on, sits on a gym bench in front of a mirror. White words read “Current Audiobook” at the top, with a white arrow pointing to the right in the middle.
Slide 2: Overtop the background of the gym picture is the cover for Running Close to the Wind by Alexandra Rowland. It has a bright blue background, with a purple silhouette of a ship, and three yellow silhouettes of the three main characters. In the background are electric bikes.
