During my recent visit, I embarked on a food crawl that introduced me to some incredible traditional Roman dishes and vibrant local flavors. One standout was Trapazzino, a unique and tasty street food combining breads filled with delights like Eggplant Parmigiana or Potato & Provolone Crocchette, perfectly paired with an Aperol Spritz for that Italian aperitivo vibe. Another must-try on this culinary journey was Suppli Roma, located in the lively Trastevere neighborhood. Their Suppli, which are fried rice balls stuffed with cacio e pepe or fresh San Marzano tomato, basil, and mozzarella, bring a delightful crunch and rich taste that perfectly showcase Roman comfort food traditions. I also indulged in a slice of Zucchini Blossom Pizza, an authentic Roman pizza that is light yet flavorful. No food crawl in Rome is complete without sampling gelato, and La Strega Nocciola near Piazza di Spagna did not disappoint. Their rotating seasonal flavors like Strawberry, Basil & Lavender topped with fresh whipped cream highlight the freshness and creativity of Italian gelaterias. This place is perfect to cool down and satisfy a sweet tooth while wandering the historic streets. Dining at Armando al Pantheon was a wonderful experience, serving up classic dishes like Eggplant Parmesan and Rigatoni all’Amatriciana, a pasta rich in flavor with a hearty tomato and pancetta sauce. Pizzeria La Boccaccia in Trastevere also offered delicious options such as Spinach & Stracchino Cheese and Potato & Mozzarella Pizza, showcasing how Roman pizzerias put unique twists on traditional toppings. My food crawl confirmed that Rome’s culinary scene is a treasure trove for food lovers eager to explore traditional recipes elevated with local ingredients. Whether you’re strolling through busy markets in Trastevere or relaxing near iconic landmarks, each bite tells a story of Roman heritage and hospitality. I highly recommend diving into a food crawl if you want to taste authentic Roman flavors and create lasting memories on your trip to Italy.
