I can’t believe I’m a flight attendant now 🥰✈️🪽🫶🏾🛬💙❤️
Hey everyone! Since my last post celebrating becoming a flight attendant, many of you reached out asking about the nitty-gritty of this new life. It’s definitely been a whirlwind, a mix of incredible highs and some truly demanding moments. I wanted to share a bit more about what it’s really like, from the hectic schedules to trying to maintain some semblance of home life, all while embracing the adventure. Let’s talk about the ‘hectic’ part first. Being a flight attendant isn't your typical 9-to-5. My schedule varies wildly – one week I might be on early morning flights, and the next I’m working late nights with quick turnarounds. There are days when I feel like I live out of my suitcase, constantly adjusting to new time zones. Delays are inevitable, and you learn quickly how to adapt and stay calm under pressure. It's a constant test of your organizational skills, from packing efficiently for different climates to managing your energy levels. I’ve found that having a solid self-care routine is non-negotiable; whether it's a quick workout in a hotel gym or just unwinding with a good book, taking time for myself helps me recharge and stay grounded. Then there’s the ‘home life’ aspect. This has been one of the biggest adjustments. Maintaining connections with family and friends when you’re constantly away can be tough. I try to schedule regular video calls and make the most of my days off, dedicating them fully to loved ones and catching up on household chores. It’s about quality over quantity, really. You learn to appreciate the small moments at home so much more. I've also found a strong sense of community with my fellow crew members, who truly understand the unique challenges of this lifestyle, especially when I was going through my initial training with *uthwest*. We're like a second family on the road. But despite the challenges, this job is undeniably ‘full of adventure.’ I’ve had the opportunity to explore so many incredible cities, even if it’s just for a short layover. From trying authentic street food in new countries to witnessing breathtaking sunrises from 30,000 feet, every trip brings something new. I love meeting people from all walks of life, both passengers and crew. There's a real thrill in waking up in a different city, not knowing what the day will bring. It truly satisfies my wanderlust in a way nothing else could. For those of you dreaming of this career, let me touch upon the ‘interview’ process. It can be quite rigorous, but totally worth it. From the initial application, which requires showcasing your customer service skills and adaptability, to the group activities and one-on-one interviews, they're looking for personality, resilience, and a genuine desire to help people. My advice? Be yourself, highlight your problem-solving abilities, and show them your passion for travel and service. Research the airline, understand their culture, and be ready to share experiences where you've gone above and beyond. It’s not just about getting hired; it’s about finding the right fit for you too. Overall, life as a flight attendant is a beautiful, chaotic, and incredibly rewarding journey. It demands a lot, but it gives back so much more in terms of experiences and growth. If you’re thinking about it, I say go for it – just be prepared for the adventure of a lifetime!
