Weaving App
I made an app called LoomSketch to help me design weaving projects for my rigid heddle loom. This is my first time creating an app, and I plan to continue improving it as I learn more.

As someone who has enjoyed weaving on a rigid heddle loom for several years, I found LoomSketch to be a refreshing tool that bridges traditional weaving crafts with modern technology. The app’s interface allows you to draw and fill warp and weft threads visually, which helps in planning patterns before even setting up the loom. What I particularly appreciate is the ability to save designs directly in the browser, making it easy to revisit and tweak projects without losing progress. The app’s features like symmetry options—including horizontal, vertical, and four-way mirroring—are incredibly useful when creating complex tapestry designs or repetitive patterns. It also offers a swatch library filled with natural and neutral colors, giving you practical palettes to experiment with digitally before dyeing or choosing your yarns. One great tip for new users is to use the 'Grid Guides' and 'Tile Repeat' functions to visualize how your design will look over larger fabric areas. This helps avoid surprises when you start weaving. Also, the option to load different photos and trace their colors or patterns can serve as inspiring starting points or for recreating traditional textile looks. While this is the author’s first app, ongoing improvements are being made based on community feedback, which shows promise for even more tools tailored to weaving enthusiasts. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by designing complex pattern drafts manually, LoomSketch offers a practical, intuitive alternative to enhance your creative workflow. I recommend exploring the loomsketch.app website to try it yourself and see how digital tools can complement the artistry of rigid heddle weaving.
