A view of Barcelona from above

... Read moreThere's something truly magical about seeing a city unfold beneath you, and Barcelona is no exception. During my recent trip, I made it a mission to find the most incredible 'Barcelona from above' spots, and let me tell you, the effort was absolutely worth it! It gave me such a unique perspective on this vibrant city, showing its intricate layout against the backdrop of the sea and mountains. My absolute top recommendation has to be the Bunkers del Carmel. It’s not just a viewpoint; it’s a piece of history! I remember hiking up there just before sunset, and the 360-degree panoramic view was simply jaw-dropping. You can see everything from the Sagrada Familia and the Gothic Quarter all the way to the Mediterranean. It’s free, a bit of a trek, but totally worth it for the local vibe and unforgettable sunset. Just pack some snacks and drinks, and prepare to be amazed! For a completely different 'above' experience, I ventured up to Tibidabo. Not only is it the highest mountain in the Serra de Collserola, offering incredible views of Barcelona and the surrounding Costa Brava region, but it also has an old-school amusement park and a stunning church, Sagrat Cor. I loved the blend of fun and spirituality, all while overlooking the entire city. The ride up, whether by funicular or bus, is an adventure in itself! Another fantastic area I explored was Montjuïc. It's so diverse! I took the cable car up to Montjuïc Castle, which offered spectacular views of the port and the coastline. The castle itself is fascinating, but simply wandering around the gardens and finding different lookout points was a highlight. And if you're there in the evening, the Magic Fountain show with the city lights sparkling in the background is a must-see! While often known for its Gaudi architecture, don't overlook Park Güell for some amazing elevated views! From the main terrace, I got fantastic glimpses of the city, framed by Gaudi’s whimsical creations. It’s a slightly different perspective, blending art and urban landscape seamlessly. Remember to book your tickets in advance, especially for the monumental zone! To make the most of your 'Barcelona from above' adventure, here are a few tips I picked up: Timing is everything: Sunset is undeniably magical for most spots, but sunrise offers a serene, crowd-free experience. Transport: Check public transport options; some places like Tibidabo or Bunkers might require a combination of metro and bus/walk. Comfort: Wear comfortable shoes, as some of these spots involve walking or light hiking. Capture the moment: Bring your camera, but don't forget to just soak in the view with your own eyes. Stay hydrated: Especially if you're visiting in warmer months or walking a lot. These views truly added another layer to my Barcelona experience, making me fall even more in love with the city. I hope you get to enjoy them as much as I did!

I thought Barcelona was overrated. Until I went.
I was in France visiting family when I found out I has a bonus week off for time in lieu so l decided to take a long weekend somewhere. My criteria was not too far from where I was, accessible by public transport, and easy to get home from. Barcelona fit the bill, tickets were fairly cheap so I we
