Blake cannot choose between 2 toys
Okay, so you know how sometimes you see a toy that's technically for kids, but you just get a feeling your pet might love it? That's exactly what happened when I stumbled upon the VTech Musical Bubbles Octopus. It's advertised as a super fun bath toy for babies, designed to make bath time exciting with cheerful melodies and a steady stream of bubbles. But my immediate thought was, "What would Blake think of this?" Blake, my adventurous cat, is always on the lookout for new stimuli. He's got his usual string toys and crinkly balls, but I'm constantly trying to find something that truly captures his attention. The idea of an octopus that plays music and blows bubbles seemed like a wild card, but potentially brilliant. So, I brought it home, set it up (it's pretty straightforward, just add water and batteries!), and waited for Blake's grand entrance. His initial reaction was priceless! He approached with extreme caution, tail twitching, eyes wide. The cheerful music started, and then, *poof*, bubbles began to float into the air. Blake's head tilted, first one way, then the other. He didn't know whether to pounce, bat, or simply observe this strange, bubbly invader. He spent a good five minutes just staring, occasionally reaching out a tentative paw to swat at a bubble floating by, then pulling it back as if surprised by its ephemeral nature. It was definitely a mix of curiosity and mild bewilderment, much like when he can't decide between his two favorite catnip mice. Now, while it was incredibly entertaining to watch, it's important to remember this isn't designed as a pet toy. The VTech Musical Bubbles Octopus is made for human babies, meaning its materials and operation aren't necessarily cat-proof. For example, while the bubbles are generally safe for humans, ingesting a lot of soapy water isn't ideal for pets. Also, a cat's sharp claws could potentially damage the delicate bubble mechanism or the toy itself. So, if you decide to try this (or any baby toy) with your pet, constant supervision is a must! I only let Blake interact with it for short, supervised periods, mostly for the novelty and observational fun. From a practical standpoint, the toy itself is quite durable for its intended use. It suctions easily to a bath wall, and the music is engaging without being overly loud. For pet owners, the main 'pro' is definitely the novelty and the visual stimulation from the bubbles. The 'con' is, of course, the safety aspect and the fact that it's not built to withstand serious feline play. If you're looking for actual cat-specific bubble toys, there are options on the market that use non-toxic, pet-safe bubble solutions and are designed to be more robust. Some even come with catnip-infused bubbles! Alternatively, simple laser pointers, feather wands, or puzzle feeders are tried-and-true ways to provide mental and physical stimulation for your furry friend. All in all, the VTech Musical Bubbles Octopus was a hilarious, if temporary, experiment for Blake. It certainly provided a lot of laughs and a unique experience. While it won't be his everyday toy, it's a fun anecdote and a reminder that sometimes, the most unexpected items can bring a moment of joy (and confusion!) to our pets.
