tough day
I had to make room in my phone by deleting stuff and scrolling through and seeing the photos from the day we got Jasmine's ashes back broke me. I should have seen it coming when Casper's bark earlier sounded too much like Jasmine. all this after the GSP named Jasmine across the street wanted me to pet her when she finally got to meet Casper. that Jasmine is super skinny and like 14 now. so it's a journal and cuddle Jasmine's Peepers stuffie. I have to keep reminding myself that grief is a journey that has no actual end. things get better, bearable, but never like it was. doesn't help my aunt is in the hospital and I just feel crummy (I have 24 mosquito bites that are making it difficult to sleep)
Grief after losing a cherished pet like Jasmine is a deeply personal experience that often unfolds over a long period. Many find it helpful to acknowledge that grief doesn’t have a set timeline—it ebbs and flows and can resurface unexpectedly, especially when triggered by familiar sounds or memories, such as the bark of another dog. Connecting with others who have experienced similar feelings can provide comfort and remind you that you’re not alone in this. Keeping a journal or mementos, like Jasmine’s Peepers stuffie mentioned, is a wonderful way to honor the memory of a pet and process emotions. These tangible items can serve as anchors that help navigate moments of intense sadness. Additionally, caring for others, like your aunt in the hospital, while managing your own grief is demanding. It’s important to prioritize self-care, including managing physical discomforts like mosquito bites that disrupt your sleep. Taking small steps such as using soothing lotions or protective measures can improve rest and resilience. Remember that grief may never completely disappear, but over time, the unbearable moments soften. Finding pockets of joy in everyday encounters, such as meeting an elderly dog named Jasmine across the street, can provide unexpected comfort. These experiences help weave a new, bearable normal while honoring the love and memories of those we have lost. Supporting yourself with kindness, patience, and community connection is key during these tough days. Sharing your story, like in this journal, can also aid healing by transforming private sorrow into shared understanding.
