My May Obsessions
I’ve been obsessed with so many things in 2024, but these have to be the highlights of this month.
1. Neighborhood walks: I love to take walks about my city on days I can’t make it to a class or the gym. It’s not the same thing but I love that I still get to move my body, be outside, and feel the wind in my hair. I’ve met this cat so many times on my walks that he starts to walk with me sometimes and I look forward to that. (I thought this was cat distribution but he looks well fed).
2. Working as an analytical chemist is BRUTAL. On your feet all day running experiments and up and down flights of stairs. It can be so exhausting but seeing the sunset right after work (or unfortunately during work) is such a lovely scene to witness and uplifts my spirit after a long day.
3. I use ClassPass and finally found a studio that I love (pictured). Reformer sculpt classes are a form of self care for me and it snatches my abs like no other. At the gym, it can be so easy to lose the tempo or forget to brace your core but with Pilates, core work is inescapable. I love that it helps me use muscles that I often forget to train. The burn is so so intense but it feels amazing.
4. One thing I didn’t expect about constantly going to the gym is the body dysmorphia that comes with it. Even though I enjoy progressing, sometimes I don’t like the way it makes my body looks. In occasions where the light is right and the pose hits, I’ll see myself in a new lens and love my body. That happens to be as of right now :)

May is a time for embracing new beginnings and personal wellness, and my recent obsessions reflect just that. Neighborhood walks have become a cherished part of my routine, allowing me to connect with nature and my community. Each stroll offers the opportunity to unwind and meet delightful local pets, enriching my daily experience. Working as an analytical chemist can be demanding, leading to both physical fatigue and moments of reflection. The beauty of a sunset after a long day serves as a gentle reminder of the world's wonders, uplifting my spirit as I navigate a busy life. Pilates, especially the reformer sculpt classes I've discovered through ClassPass, serves as a powerful self-care tool. Not only does it challenge my core strength, but it also brings awareness to muscles that often go untrained. The intensity of each session might be daunting, yet the rewarding sensation afterward makes it worthwhile. However, with regular gym sessions comes an unexpected emotional challenge: body dysmorphia. Like many, I grapple with fluctuating perceptions of my body. Thankfully, there are moments when the right light and angle highlight my progress, encouraging a newfound appreciation for my body. It's an ongoing journey of embracing vulnerability, and I'm learning to love myself more each day. This month has been about discovering what it means to be present, enjoying the little things, and cultivating self-love through both physical activity and reflection.
