Since welcoming Gucci into my life, every day has been an adventure! He may be tiny, but his personality is huge. He's incredibly playful and loves to chase his squeaky toys around the living room. It's funny because after years of having big Rottweilers, I thought I knew dog energy, but Gucci has a whole different kind of zest for life. He's also super cuddly, always wanting to be right by my side, whether I'm working or just relaxing on the couch. His little purrs and snuggles are just the best. Getting used to a dog this small was definitely a change. Potty training took a bit of patience, but with his smarts, Gucci caught on quickly. He’s surprisingly brave too; he’ll confidently greet dogs much bigger than himself at the park, always with a wagging tail. It’s truly amazing how much joy such a little creature can bring, and I find myself smiling all the time just watching him explore or nap. One thing I quickly learned about owning a fluffy Pomeranian like Gucci is that their beautiful double coat needs regular attention. When I first heard 'fluffy puppy grooming,' I admit I was a little overwhelmed, but it's totally manageable once you get into a routine. I make sure to brush Gucci at least every other day, sometimes daily during shedding season, to prevent mats and tangles. A good pin brush and a slicker brush are absolute essentials. I usually start with the pin brush to get through the longer outer coat, then follow up with the slicker to get the undercoat. It's also a great bonding time for us! Bathing isn't an everyday thing for Poms; too much can dry out their skin. I bathe Gucci about once a month, using a good quality dog shampoo and conditioner specifically for double coats. The trick is to make sure he's completely dry afterward, which means a thorough towel dry followed by a low-heat blow dryer, brushing as I go to ensure no dampness is left to cause skin issues. Don't forget the nails! Regular nail trims are important for any dog, but especially for small breeds whose nails can quickly become overgrown and uncomfortable. I use a small clipper and give him treats, so he associates it with a positive experience. And ear cleaning is a must too, just a gentle wipe with a dog-specific ear cleaner to keep them healthy.
