I haven’t felt like this since Joey’s books. Don’t get me wrong, Gibsie’s book hurt too, but I feel like Joey’s and Lizzie’s stories were so in-depth, starting from their early years as kids. With Gibsie’s, you’re trying to figure out what happened as you go, and then—plot twist—that’s what happened.
This book… holy sh*t. Read responsibly, you guys. Chloe did not hold back when it came to mental issues and trauma in this one. It’s incredibly heavy and deeply traumatic. I wasn’t fully sold on the timeline of this book at first, but the more I read, the more I realized how necessary it was. Given everything we’ve seen about Lizzie’s character throughout the previous books, it truly made sense. I felt every single emotion, I couldn’t stop reading it. The amount of emotional gut punches this book gave me is unbelievable. I sobbed, I was mostly furious, I laughed a little, I melted, etc.
I love Lizzie so much, my heart shattered into a million pieces over and over for her. I’ve been a Lizzie defender from the start. I’m naturally drawn to complicated characters, and while I don’t excuse the hurtful things she’s said, I’ve felt there was something way deeper going on with her, and I’ve always wanted to understand it. And whoa… I got it, alright. I see you, Lizzie. I hear you 🥺
Hughie is such a sweetheart and the most smartest kid ever. God bless, sweet Hughie Biggs. He helped Lizzie realize things she never even knew herself. I loved how aware he was, how he trusted his gut, and how he was always by Lizzie’s side no matter what. I didn’t know what to expect out of his character before, but after reading in his POV, I absolutely love him. His parents truly raised an amazing boy.
I cannot wait for their continued story. That ending definitely crushed me. The redemption arc is going to go so hard, I just know it! I’m looking forward to A TON of sh*t going down!
