Fearful by Lauren Roberts 🗝️

Could this have been an email? Absolutely. Auto-flag it to the spam folder, though, because this was rough (at least for me). Mara’s POV—narrating Lenny and Blair’s every move—was unbearable. I was fighting boredom! Kitt’s POV added nothing new except seeing a ghost and that strange ending, which left me with more questions… but honestly, I’d rather not.
I loved the previous books, but thank the plagues this was only a novella. Any longer and it would’ve been a DNF. A total waste of time, but at least my annoyance is now well-informed.

Okay, so after sharing my initial, rather blunt thoughts on Lauren Roberts' 'Fearful,' I know many of you are still curious about what this novella actually entails, especially given its connection to previous books. I saw a lot of questions about 'what is Fearful by Lauren Roberts about' and I want to dive a bit deeper into the substance, so you can decide if it's for you, even if my experience wasn't the best. For those who are wondering about the plot, 'Fearful' acts as a kind of interlude or side story, delving into events and relationships that might not have received full attention in the main series. It primarily follows characters like Mara, Lenny, and Blair, offering glimpses into their lives and ongoing struggles. It’s meant to expand the world, though for me, it felt a bit like an email that could have been condensed! Many searches asked, 'whose perspective is Fearful from?' The novella is primarily told from two points of view: Mara's and Kitt's. Mara's perspective often tracks the movements and interactions of Lenny and Blair, giving readers an inside look at their dynamic. My previous review mentioned how Mara's POV felt unbearable, largely because it often felt like an observer rather than a participant, making the narrative drag for me personally. Kitt's POV, on the other hand, offers a different, more mysterious angle, culminating in some strange occurrences, like seeing a ghost, which left me with more questions than answers. And for those of you specifically asking, 'do Lenny and Blair kiss in Fearful' or 'what happens in Fearful by Lauren Roberts' regarding their relationship, without giving away explicit spoilers, the novella certainly explores their bond further. Their storyline is a central focus in Mara's chapters, detailing their emotional journey and the complexities they face. While I found the pacing slow, fans of their dynamic will find developments here. It's also interesting to note the physical book itself. Many of you searched for 'Fearful Lauren Roberts book cover' and I can confirm it's quite striking. The copy I have features a black cover with beautiful green foliage, delicate pink ribbons, and a prominent key—elements that certainly hint at the secrets and intertwined fates within the story. It really looks appealing, even if the content didn't quite grab me. Ultimately, while 'Fearful' didn't resonate with me as much as I'd hoped, especially coming from a fan of Lauren Roberts' previous work, it does offer additional insights into the world and characters. If you're a completist or deeply invested in the smaller nuances of the series, understanding these aspects can help you decide if you want to give this novella a try. Just be prepared for a potentially different reading experience compared to the main novels!
