Help!!!
My son had his 4 month appointment Friday and the doctor said he had a semi flat head and some abnormal development mean his head isn’t symmetrical if it’s still like this by his 6 month appointment he will have to have a helmet he’s hardly even on his his back other than when he’s sleeping or getting changed we do as much tummy time as we can we need tips so he doesn’t have to have a helmet. What worked for your babies?

Since your son has been diagnosed with a semi flat head and asymmetry, early intervention is important. One of the most effective strategies besides tummy time is to consistently vary your baby’s head position during sleep and awake times. While it’s important to always place your baby on their back to sleep to reduce risks of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), you can gently alternate the direction your baby’s head faces each time you put them down. For example, one night face the head to the left, the next night to the right. This subtle change encourages more evenly distributed pressure. Increasing supervised tummy time while your baby is awake is essential too. Tummy time helps strengthen neck and shoulder muscles and reduces the time spent resting on the back of the head. If your baby resists tummy time, try making it more engaging with toys, mirrors, or your own face to maintain eye contact and encourage lifting the head. Another helpful tip is to position toys and mobiles on different sides to encourage your baby to turn their head frequently. When feeding your baby, alternate arms to promote head movement in both directions. If your baby tends to favor lying on one side when awake, consider using a rolled-up towel or a supportive wedge (specifically designed for infants and recommended by your pediatrician) placed under the opposite side of the body to gently encourage turning away from the flat spot. Remember, consistency and gentle encouragement in these activities often make a significant difference in improving head shape during the first 6 months of life, when babies’ skulls are still malleable.
