Hidden gem in MD
Took my kids to this hidden gem in Upper Marlboro. They absolutely loved the Wizard of Oz theme. Not only did they have this little cute playground. This park also had a carousel, mini train, miniature golf, and various hiking trails.
Oh my goodness, I just had to share more about our amazing family day out in Upper Marlboro, MD! When we were looking for 'things to do in Upper Marlboro MD' that would truly captivate the kids, this Wizard of Oz themed park popped up, and it exceeded all expectations. It's truly a hidden gem, perfect for families who love a mix of whimsy and outdoor adventure, and it offers so much more than just a typical playground. First off, the Wizard of Oz theme is absolutely charming and so thoughtfully integrated. My little ones were immediately drawn into the playful world, imagining Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and even little Toto frolicking through the park. The playground isn't just any playground – it has unique elements that tie into the theme, like emerald green slides and yellow brick road pathways, sparking their imaginations for hours. We spent ages there, and honestly, even I enjoyed the creative touches! Beyond the playground, the carousel and mini train rides were huge hits. It felt like stepping back in time, offering simple, pure joy that's hard to find these days. The mini train takes you on a delightful little loop around part of the park, giving you a glimpse of the different attractions. If you're planning a visit, I'd highly recommend checking out their wristband or package deals for these attractions online before you go, as they can add up if you pay per ride. We found it was a great way to let the kids enjoy multiple turns without constantly reaching for our wallets. And for the adults, or older kids, the miniature golf course was surprisingly fun and well-maintained. It’s a fantastic way to engage everyone in some friendly competition, complete with themed obstacles. What really impressed me though, were the hiking trails. They range from easy, paved strolls perfect for tiny legs and strollers to more challenging, unpaved paths for those looking to get some serious steps in. It's a beautiful way to explore the abundant natural beauty of the area, offering shaded relief on sunny days. It’s also such a peaceful spot for anyone looking to get in some outdoor exercise, perhaps even training for a local 'Marbo 10k' or just enjoying a refreshing walk amidst nature. A few practical tips for making the most of your visit: Pack a picnic basket! While there are usually snack options available for purchase, bringing your own lunch and drinks makes it a more affordable and relaxed outing. There are plenty of shaded picnic tables scattered throughout the park. Also, wear comfortable shoes, especially if you plan to hit the trails, and don't forget sunscreen and insect repellent during the warmer months. Parking was plentiful when we went, but I'd advise arriving earlier on weekends and holidays to snag a good spot and beat the initial crowds. This park truly offers a full day of diverse entertainment and outdoor activity, making it a top contender for 'things to do in Upper Marlboro MD' with your family. We left feeling refreshed, with happy, tired kids, and already planning our next trip back to see Toto and the gang!
