The more questions you ask now, the more confident you’ll feel when it’s actually time to have your baby.

From my own experience touring hospitals, asking detailed questions really gave me peace of mind before the big day. One important aspect is understanding the routine care your newborn will receive right after birth, such as eye ointment, vitamin K shots, and the hepatitis B vaccine. Knowing these helps you feel prepared and informed to advocate for your baby’s health. Another key area I explored was how the hospital handles labor stalls. Ask if they have protocols to manage slow progress in labor and how flexible they are with your birth plan during those moments—their approach can hugely impact the birth experience. I also found it really helpful to confirm whether you can move around during labor, use tools like birthing balls, or even have wireless monitoring instead of being confined to the bed. Having freedom of movement can make labor feel more manageable and less stressful. Additionally, I checked if I could bring my own gown to feel more comfortable and maintain a personal touch during my stay. Hospitals vary, so this small question can improve your comfort significantly. Overall, the hospital tour is a golden opportunity to clarify these details so you can enter labor feeling empowered and knowledgeable. Preparing these questions in your third trimester, as suggested, ensures you make the most of the visit and helps avoid surprises when the time comes to welcome your baby.
