Indigo ACCT-A-208202 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Indigo must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Monday, December 16th at 10 A.M. Should Indigo’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Indigo is a gentle and timid boy who came to the shelter on December 2nd after being surrendered by someone who had him for 3-4 weeks. Although he’s a bit nervous and still adjusting, Indigo has shown that he is eager to trust and be loved. He’s a calm and friendly dog but can get overwhelmed, particularly in new or busy environments.

At events, like Rocky Fest, Indigo has proven to be tolerant of other dogs, even when Sandy playfully sat on his head! While he may freeze up and “pancake” to the ground when scared, this is his way of coping with stress. He’s never shown any aggression, but his fear can make him reactive at times, especially in the kennel. He’s more relaxed and affectionate once out of his kennel, enjoying treats and gentle head rubs.

Indigo needs a home where he can continue to build confidence, ideally with older kids (12+) who can respect his boundaries. He has shown that he would do well in a home with or without other dogs. He’s also a big fan of tennis balls and is learning to enjoy fetch as he warms up to the world around him.

This sweet boy is looking for a patient family that can give him the time and understanding he needs to feel safe and loved. If you're someone who can offer Indigo the calm, quiet home he deserves, he’s sure to become your loyal best friend.

Behavior Notes:

Per staff 12/10: Indigo was a hit at the Rocky Fest event! He was hesitant to load into the crate so had to be lifted up and into the crate. I don't think he realizes his size! At the event he trotted around and met the other dogs, and was quite tolerant including of Sandy sitting down on his head. His response to getting a bit scared was to pancake on the ground. He also allowed the volunteer to carry him over to his photoshoot! He's really a great dog with a terrible kennel presence that I hope someone will see past

Per staff 12/9: Indigo has been reactive in kennel the last couple days. he will lunge the bars growling, barking and jumping up at you. When I went to leash him he continued to react so I lowered the divider. I was able to lasso him, but was cautious due to his reactivity in kennel. Once out of kennel Indigo was tolerant to all handling but remained very shutdown, pancaked.

Per staff 12/6: Indigo is a great dog who we think would do fine with or without another dog at home. He needs a home with no kids or older kids (high school) just because he is fearful and while he's never shown any reactivity, having kids in the home whose friends may not respect his boundaries could result in him being frightened enough to nip. With a bit of patience and lots of treats he will be someone's best friend. He also rides well in a crate in the car (he was great transporting to the event) and I'm sure is great loose as well.

Per staff 12/6: Indigo was great at the RockyFest event last night. He met all the dogs and even with Sandy crawling all over him did well. He did put on the brakes a few times as when he gets scared, he hunkers down. But he did very well!

Per volunteer 12/6: Indigo is a sweet but timid boy who’s looking for someone patient to help him gain confidence and trust. Though hesitant, he does approach for treats, showing he’s eager for kindness. Over time, Indigo warms up a bit. He continues to accept treats and is doing his best to stay brave in a world that feels overwhelming to him.

He’s also got a soft spot for tennis balls and is eager to learn to fetch—just another step toward showing his playful side.

Per staff 12/5: Indigo has been reactive in his sidebank today to people and dogs passing by

Per staff 12/4: Indigo came out for activity time today. He was still super nervous but walked much better on leash. He was very food motivated in the room and shoed knowledge of sit and took them gently! He is a shy but very gentle and tolerant boy.

Per staff 12/3:

KENNEL PRESENTATION:

Indigo was in a sidebank due to space. He was laying with neutral eyes when the handler approached. He did not come forward at all to sniff, and laid still. WHen the handler reached in with the leash he did some leash dodging, but wasn’t moving too much so was still lashed easily. He did not want to come out at first, but did climb out with a little leash pressure.

LEASH SKILLS:

Pulls minimally, very fearful. Has pancaked for previous handlers, but walked all by himself today! We walked down a quiet hallway and he did much better than walking through kennels.

HANDLING:

Indigo was very nervous at first in the room with us. He kept his distance, but would approach for treats. He took them very gently, but would shy away from handling or pets. With time he warmed up a bit, but still shied away from side or body handling. He would either move away or turn around and look at the handler’s hand, licking at them to get them to stop. Indigo preferred under the chin pets, and would shy away when reached over. He was excessively drooling, but continued to take treats gently. Overall, Indigo is very fearful at this time, but is tolerant and is trying to be brave.

PLAY:

No interest, too fearful

TOYS:

Interest in tennis balls but never took possession

Per staff 12/2: Indigo is a very friendly boy, just get scared at times and wants to lay down and not move. He loves treats and head rubs.

Per owner 12/2: playful, high energy, scared towards strangers, playful towards kids, not good towards cats, good towards dogs

Gabapentin 400 mg PO BID x 7 days

Trazodone 100 mg PO BID x 7 days

URI 12/6:

his dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection.

Intake 12/2:

Eyes - bit of crust dry tears

Ears - clean but clean some hair loss on the top of the ear

Nose -moisty bit dry keep licking

Mouth/Teeth/Gums - bit tartar

Coat & Skin - bolds stops top of head old scaring

Urogenital - male intact

Gait/Mobility - no lameness but is fearful to walk

Attitude: bar but vary fearful
