Petey Snow ACCT-A-208031 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Petey Snow must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by THURSDAY, DECEMBER 19TH at 10AM. Should Petey Snow’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Petey Snow is a happy, social girl with a wagging tail and a heart full of love. Always eager to greet new friends, she has soft, kind eyes and a playful spirit. Petey is curious and confident, exploring her surroundings with plenty of tail wags. She’s great with handling, even though she was little sensitive around her wounded hind area. Petey takes treats politely, shows some interest in toys, and walks well on leash, though she can get a bit excited and pull when she wants to go meet a new friend. Petey met another dog while at the shelter and did well, so if you have any dogs, please bring them along for a meet! She also met children and did well. Petey is ready to find a loving home where she can share her sweet personality. Could it be with you? BEHAVIOR:
Per volunteer 12/12: Good meet with male Boots.
Per volunteer 11/10: Loves to snuggle. Interested in cats and dogs!
Per volunteer 12/8: Petey Snow came in and out of her kennel so easily, with the cutest tail wags when she saw my leash. She pulled a tiny bit but was easy to redirect and checked in with me easily. She wasn’t interested in toys, but wanted all the love, giving me big wiggles when she got butt scritches. She also took treats super gently - really, all she wanted was to snuggle up on my lap, get pets, and give me kisses. She was interested in other dogs, but easy to pull away without saying hi. We also walked past a loud rolling trash can and she didn’t react at all, so doesn’t seem skittish. One thing to note is that she was VERY interested when we saw the cats outside and fixated on them, but no growling or hackles, so I’m not sure if it was positive or negative interest.
Per staff 12/7: Got Petey out for a meet and greet. She did well! Pulls moderately on leash, but able to leash and return to kennel without issue. She saw a colony cat out back and was interested in him. A bit fixated but seemed to be playful as she offered a play bow. The cat hissed and swatted at Petey but she did not react! And I was able to walk her away easily. She did look back a couple times but was easily able to redirect. She was loose and wiggly with [the potential] adopters and their kids. She took treats nicely and knows sit. She is a sweet girl that gently jumps up for hugs.
Per volunteer 12/5: Literally the sweetest girl. Loves to be loves. Just wants all the pets.
Per staff 12/5: Great on leash, moves around a lot.
11/30 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Petey Snow was at the front with a wagging tail. She hopped up on the door but got down when the handler opened the door. She had soft eyes and a wagging tail while the handler leashed her, and came right out once secured.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled minimally to moderately, gets excited and pulls harder
HANDLING:
In the room, Petey Snow immediately started exploring with a loose body and wagging tail. She greeted both handlers with soft eyes and a wagging tail. She allowed all handling right away but was a little sensitive around her wounded hind area. She would just turn around and mouth at hands gently, never escalated. Petey Snow took treats gently and showed some interest in toys but didn’t take possession. Overall, she’s a happy, social girl who won’t let a few wounds get her down!

Per volunteer 11/30: Very cuddly, accidental meet but did very well/friendly.

Per staff 11/29: Petey was very friendly with everyone. Allowed pets and hugs and allowed me to scan for microchip without any problem.
MEDICAL:
On 12/3, Petey was able to receive her vaccines, microchip, dewormer, and flea treatments.
On 12/2, Petey was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus. She also had a recheck for her wounds, which were healing with no discharge or swelling remaining, just some redness around the wounds on her hind legs.
During her intake exam on 11/29, Petey was noted to have puncture wounds on her jaw, neck, and hind leg with drainage. She also had a fever, so her vaccines were delayed until she had a normal temperature. Her eyes and nose were clear, her teeth were white, and her ears were slightly dirty. She was prescribed Amoxi-clav, carprofen, and gabapentin for her injuries.
