Am I being petty?
Recently got a small raise nothing crazy, just enough to make life a little easier. One of my close friends asked me to lend him $400 to get through the month.
He’s borrowed from me before and sometimes took months to pay me back. I told him I wasn’t comfortable lending more right now because I’m still trying to save and keep my finances in check.
He got defensive, saying I’ve “changed” since the raise, like I think I’m better than everyone else. Now a few mutual friends are saying I should’ve helped, but I feel like it’s not fair to always be expected to lend money.
Would you have lent it, or is it okay to say no for your own financial sanity?

Don’t ever let anyone know you’re getting money. That’s a great way to open the door to others asking for help or to try and abuse you financially or they start treating you differently.
