Not to be morbid but this cemetery is beautiful

For a few years now, we have been attending to the day of the day celebration at the local cemetery. This cemetery is full of history and beautiful Tombs.

As a Mexican this festivities bring back lots of memories and nostalgia. Growing up in Mexico 🇲🇽 every November 2nd all my grandma family gather to remember their parents. We stayed there for hours and hours. With lots of food, music and stories. This was one of my favorite festivities. Now, here in the USA we kind of loose this traditions but I’m trying to bring this back my teaching my kids about and building an altar every November.

... Read moreCemeteries often hold deep cultural significance, especially during important traditions like the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos). This Mexican holiday, celebrated every November 2nd, honors deceased loved ones and showcases rich customs, combining respect and joy. During this festive period, families gather in cemeteries, creating altars adorned with flowers, candles, and photographs of their ancestors. The marigold flower, or cempasúchil, is particularly significant, as its vibrant color is believed to guide spirits back to their families. Traditional foods such as pan de muerto (a sweet bread) are prepared to nourish the souls, reflecting the continuity of life and death in this culture. Incorporating history and beauty, places like Forest Home Cemetery are not just resting places but vibrant sites of heritage. They offer visitors a chance to explore the artistry of tombstones and monuments that tell stories of the past. The significance of cemeteries as cultural landmarks has gained recognition, encouraging local communities to appreciate and preserve these historical sites. Visiting cemeteries can be a reflective experience, allowing us to connect with our past and keep traditions alive, while also appreciating the beautiful environments they provide for remembrance and celebration.

It’s not morbid most cemeteries are beautiful. I love going to them because they’re peaceful and quiet and I love looking at the 1800s style and carving on the headstones.
