Growing

#girlgrowth #lemon8challenge

I always knew what kind of mom I wanted to be, but I didn’t know I’d have to work so hard to get there. Growing up I don’t want to say I had a terrible childhood it was a bit rough my dad wasn’t there for maybe half my life, but my mom wasn’t any better. She was tough and very strict, at the time I didn’t understand why and I just always thought she was a bad mom. I mean ya there were some things she’d do that was a bit much but now I understand why she was that way. Being a mom made me understand why. Still I don’t want to be like her I want to be better. I want to break generational curses, and I have. I am so glad I have. I want the best for my daughter, and as the years go by there’s always something new that I notice about myself as a mom that I’m so glad I did or didn’t do that my parents did or didn’t do. (If that makes sense) I’m growing and learning all these new things as a mother and I can feel myself change for the better. To be better for my daughter to give her what I never got as a child. And I’m also learning to not pass my trauma onto her. It’s hard but I’m getting better everyday!

This process often begins with self-awareness and reflection on one's upbringing, identifying patterns that may have caused pain or trauma. Understanding the reasons behind strict or harsh parenting styles, as mentioned, can bring empathy and clarity. Many parents who experienced difficult childhoods replicate certain behaviors unconsciously; recognizing these patterns empowers them to make conscious changes. Effective strategies for breaking generational cycles include practicing emotional intelligence, seeking therapy or support groups, and prioritizing open communication with children. By fostering a supportive environment, parents can help their children develop resilience and emotional security. Moreover, mindfulness and stress management are essential tools for parents managing their own trauma, preventing its transmission to the next generation. Being patient with oneself while striving to grow and improve daily can lead to transformative change. Communities like #girlgrowth and challenges such as #lemon8challenge encourage sharing personal growth stories, creating solidarity and inspiration among mothers working toward better futures. This collective support highlights that while the process can be difficult, it is deeply rewarding and vital for breaking harmful cycles. Ultimately, the journey of growth, healing, and intentional parenting underscores the power of love and determination in shaping a positive legacy for children.
