We need God
It's a question many of us ponder, especially during challenging times: "Why do we really need God?" For a long time, I wrestled with this myself. It’s easy to get caught up in daily life, pursuing success, relationships, or material things, and feel like we have everything under control. Yet, I often noticed a persistent feeling, a quiet whisper that something was missing, a void that worldly achievements couldn't quite fill. This is exactly what the profound truth of being "created in His image and likeness" speaks to – we have a "longing inside for something that's invisible, that's beyond." Just like the powerful image of "trees without soil, they die," we, too, have a fundamental need for our Creator. We can try to sustain ourselves with temporary fixes, but without the deep roots of connection to God, our spiritual foundation weakens. He was "setting us up to give us an example of how much we need" Him, even before we were formed. This isn't about weakness; it's about acknowledging our design. We are not just physical beings; we come as a "spirit, soul, and body from God." To neglect our spiritual aspect is to live incomplete, forever searching for something only He can provide. Understanding that "God created you in His image and likeness" is incredibly empowering. It means we carry a piece of the divine within us. This isn't just a metaphor; it implies a capacity for love, creativity, compassion, and justice that mirrors His own. When we try to live without acknowledging this divine imprint, we often struggle to find our true purpose. It's like having a magnificent instrument but never learning to play it, or even knowing what it's for. Our deepest sense of identity and worth comes from recognizing whose we are and why we were made. For me, acknowledging this need brought immense clarity. When I truly grasped that "you came from God, therefore you need God," it shifted my entire perspective. It's not about relying on an absent deity, but connecting with a living, present God who intimately knows us. In moments of doubt or uncertainty, remembering that "God is still God" provides an anchor. His nature is unchanging, and He is a constant source of strength and guidance. This connection allows us to tap into wisdom and peace that go beyond our own understanding. Practically, what does this look like? It means turning to Him in prayer, seeking guidance in His word, and allowing His love to shape our interactions with others. It's finding comfort in knowing that even when life feels overwhelming, we are not alone. This spiritual nourishment is just as vital as the food we eat or the air we breathe. It fills that "longing inside" with genuine fulfillment, purpose, and hope. Embracing our need for God isn't a sign of weakness, but a profound step towards living a truly whole and meaningful life.
