how i edited mommy & me photos

The lighting was tough at this shoot because of the time of day and location that the client requested, so there's only so much you can do in post-processing! I thought this was a good example, though, of working with what you have and making sure that you're doing everything else you can do to make the photo something that means a lot to the client and evokes emotion.

Every camera is different and everyone's settings they start off shooting in are different, so please keep that in mind if you use my settings to learn to edit in my style! Personally, I shoot with a Sony a7iii.

The most important thing is not the specific +/- settings themselves, but the patterns you see for each setting... bringing down the clarity, blacks, highlights, and contrast, and boosting the shadows, exposure, and whites. It takes time to learn so don't be afraid to play around until you feel like you're starting to understand how manipulating each setting works!

For instance, if you shoot with a Sony a7iii, familiarize yourself with its settings. Adjusting clarity, shadows, and exposure can significantly enhance your images. Experimenting is key; don’t hesitate to try different techniques. You can manipulate specific settings by reducing clarity and brightness while boosting shadows and exposure for more dynamic visuals. Using software like Lightroom, you can refine your edits further. Look for tutorials that focus on editing styles similar to what you aim for. Additionally, joining photography communities can provide support, feedback, and inspiration. Make use of online resources and forums, such as photography blogs and YouTube channels, to stay updated on the latest editing trends and tools. Lastly, remember that each photo tells a story. Your goal in editing should be to preserve that narrative while enhancing its emotional depth. By understanding the basics and continually practicing, you'll develop a unique editing style that not only improves your technical skills but also resonates with your clients.
