... Read moreHey fellow craft lovers! Seeing my first junk journal spread got me thinking about all the fun and unique ways we can personalize these memory books. If you’re just starting out or looking for fresh ideas, junk journaling is an amazing way to capture moments and express your creativity, and it’s surprisingly easy to get started with things you already have around the house! One of the best things about junk journaling is using everyday ephemera to tell your story. Don't throw away those little bits of paper from your day! For my Valentine's theme, I included a Summer Moon Coffee receipt, which always reminds me of cozy mornings, and another Iced Matcha Moon Latte receipt from a special outing. Even a simple THANK YOU FOR YOUR VISIT receipt can mark a significant memory. Imagine adding a Moët & Chandon label from a celebration – perfect for a fancy touch! These small pieces aren't just trash; they're tiny time capsules that add authenticity and a personal touch to your pages. Beyond receipts and labels, think about other treasures. Do you have old ticket stubs from a movie or concert? Little tags from gifts? Pressed flowers or leaves from a walk in the park? My spread even has a beautiful dried rose petal which instantly adds a romantic, natural texture. And what about those unique cards, like a League City Book&Sip Club card? They instantly tell a story about your hobbies and passions. The beauty is in the imperfection and the story each item tells. For beginners, don't feel intimidated! You don't need fancy supplies. Start with an old notebook, a discarded book, or even just some scrapbook paper. Gather simple tools like a glue stick, scissors, and maybe some pens. The magic happens when you start layering. Begin with a base layer – maybe a torn piece of paper or a plain background. Then, start arranging your ephemera. Play with different textures and colors. Add stickers, doodles, or small handwritten notes. For a Valentine's theme, think about red and pink hues, hearts, and romantic quotes. But don't limit yourself to holidays; you can create journals for travel, daily reflections, favorite books, or even just a collection of pretty things you find. My biggest tip is to just embrace the process. There's no right or wrong way to junk journal. It's about personal expression and creating a tactile memory keeper. Let your creativity flow, and don't be afraid to experiment. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can create something beautiful and meaningful with items you might have otherwise thrown away. Happy journaling!
