It's not just about who you like, but who you connect with, who makes you laugh, and who you just want to shake. What makes Shameless so compelling is how deeply flawed and yet incredibly human these characters are, constantly evolving and making choices that swing your opinion wildly. For instance, Fiona Gallagher. Up to Season 6, she's been the unwavering matriarch, holding everything together, making immense sacrifices. There are moments I root for her fiercely, and other times I just want her to catch a break without self-sabotaging. Her journey is a rollercoaster, and ranking her feels like ranking a piece of my own heart sometimes. Then there's Lip. Such a brilliant mind, so much potential, yet his self-destructive patterns can be heartbreaking to watch. I find myself constantly torn – admiring his intellect one moment, then frustrated by his choices the next. Ian's story, especially with Mickey, is another one that constantly shifts my perspective. Their complex relationship is a huge part of the show's emotional core. Watching Ian navigate his mental health challenges and his identity, particularly up to Season 6, is incredibly powerful. And speaking of Mickey Milkovich, despite his rough exterior, his loyalty and vulnerability, especially towards Ian, make him impossible not to include in any character discussion. He’s definitely a standout for many viewers, and I can see why people miss him when he's not around. Carl's transformation, from a troubled kid to... well, something else entirely, is fascinating. By Season 6, he's showing glimpses of potential, but still has that Gallagher wild streak. Debbie, on the other hand, is a character whose choices become increasingly controversial as the seasons progress. It’s hard to reconcile the sweet, intelligent young girl with some of her later decisions, and it really challenges your loyalty as a viewer. And then there's Frank Gallagher. You love to hate him, you hate to love him. He's the ultimate survivor, a master manipulator, and yet, occasionally, he shows a flicker of something almost resembling humanity. It's these layers that make Shameless characters so hard to definitively rank. My rankings are definitely a work in progress, influenced heavily by what I've seen up to Season 6. I know many fans have strong opinions, and I'm sure mine will continue to shift as I watch more. It's the beauty of a show with such rich, complicated personalities. What about you? Who are your top Shameless characters right now, and why? I’d love to hear how your own blind ranking of these characters plays out!
