Repotted My Monstera 🍀🌱

So today I decided to take on the challenge of dealing with Delilah.

I’ve had her for about 7 months and she has been off-springing babies since the day I brought her home.

Her and her kiddos had gotten a bit out of control and I had to repot and tie her to a post. I’m hoping this will allow her to continue to rise upwards as all of her leaves are nice, green, and healthy !

Let me know what you think !

... Read moreRepotting a Monstera can feel like a big challenge, especially when your plant, like my Delilah, starts taking over its space with all those gorgeous 'babies' and lush, large green leaves! I know the feeling of looking at an overgrown plant and wondering, 'Is it time to repot?' So, I wanted to share my own repotting experience and offer some practical tips that I've learned along the way to help your Monstera thrive, just like I hope Delilah will with her new setup. First off, how do you know it's time to repot? For me, Delilah was literally bursting out of her old pot, with roots circling the drainage holes and growth slowing down despite regular watering. If you see roots peeking out, your plant looking top-heavy, or needing water almost daily, those are clear signs your Monstera is root-bound and crying out for a larger home. It's usually best to repot in spring or early summer when the plant is actively growing, giving it the best chance to recover. Before you dive in, gather your supplies! You'll need a new pot that's only 1-2 inches larger in diameter than the old one. Going too big can lead to overwatering issues. I chose a classic black pot for Delilah, which really makes her vibrant foliage pop! Crucially, make sure it has drainage holes. Next, you'll need a good quality, well-draining potting mix – think chunky, a mix of orchid bark, perlite, and regular potting soil works wonders for Monsteras. And, of course, a moss pole! As you can see from my picture, a moss pole is essential for these climbing plants to provide the support they need to grow upwards and develop those iconic fenestrations. You might also want some clean pruning shears and gardening gloves. Now for the repotting process itself! I usually water my Monstera thoroughly a day or two before repotting; this makes it easier to remove the plant from its old pot. Gently lay your plant on its side and carefully ease it out. If it's stubborn, you might need to gently tap the pot or even run a knife around the edges. Once out, gently loosen the root ball with your fingers. This is a good time to inspect the roots – if you see any mushy, dark, or dead roots, carefully trim them away with your sterilized shears. Next, add a layer of fresh potting mix to the bottom of your new pot. Center your Monstera in the pot, making sure its base is at the same level as it was in the old pot. This is the perfect moment to firmly insert your moss pole into the soil, right behind the main stem of your Monstera. Push it down deep enough so it's stable and provides strong support for future growth. Then, carefully backfill the rest of the pot with your fresh potting mix, gently tamping it down to remove air pockets, but don't compact it too much. Leave about an inch or so from the rim of the pot free for watering. Finally, gently tie the main stem of your Monstera to the moss pole using a soft plant tie or even some twine. This helps train it to climb. Give your newly repotted Monstera a good, thorough watering to help the soil settle. After repotting, I like to keep my plant in a consistent environment, away from direct, harsh sunlight for a few days, just to help it recover from the shock. Avoid fertilizing for about a month, giving the roots time to adjust. Seeing Delilah settled in her new home with her sturdy moss pole, I feel so much happier knowing she has the space and support to continue producing those beautiful, large green leaves. I hope these steps help you feel more confident in tackling your own Monstera repotting adventure!

she looks good! see if the leaves start to get larger over the next few months, if not i’d do a little taller moss pole so she has more room to climb ❤️

eos…what is this?
I hate the eos packaging for their body lotions. Why am I cutting apart my bottle to access HALF of the product. This is three bottles worth of “extra” lotion that I repotted into an old moisturizer jar and one of the leftover bottles. I’d say it’s basically a full bottle of lotion atp. Smh. Please

So… my monstera basically staged a protest. Roots circling the pot, new leaves slowing down, giving me the “do something about this” look. 🪴✨ After a year of growth (from a little propagation baby, btw!), it was finally time for the big repot. Think of it like a plant glow-up…new pot, fresh soil
