my experience getting diagnosed with adhd

Before I knew I had ADHD, I just thought I was failing at things everyone else seemed to handle fine. I’d overthink emails for an hour, forget plans, and struggle to finish anything unless it was last-minute.

After years of blaming myself, my therapist suggested I get assessed. I saw a psychiatrist and went through a full evaluation. When the diagnosis came back, it honestly felt like relief. Like, finally there’s a reason for all of this.

Now I’m on medication: Vyvanse in the morning, Adderall IR later in the day. It gives me the clarity to function, but I still need tools like timers, visual cues, and structured routines.

ADHD doesn’t disappear with a diagnosis, but it becomes a lot easier to navigate when you finally know what you’re working with.

It's crucial to recognize symptoms such as difficulty in sustaining attention, overthinking tasks, and struggles with time management. Many diagnosed later in life reflect on their past and the misunderstandings they faced regarding their capabilities. Medications like Vyvanse and Adderall can significantly help, but they are not a cure-all; developing organizational strategies is essential. Techniques such as using reminders, breaking down tasks into smaller steps, and employing visual cues create a supportive structure for daily living. Community resources, online forums, and support groups can also provide valuable insights and shared experiences, making individuals feel less isolated in their journey. Embracing an ADHD diagnosis is not just about understanding one's brain; it's about cultivating self-acceptance and finding effective solutions tailored to personal needs. Ultimately, it’s about learning to support your brain instead of feeling ashamed of its unique behaviors.

I take adderall & my doctor won’t prescribe me more for some reason but the effects have faded over time due to my tolerance. Since everyone here has adhd & is on adderall, can anyone give me advice what to do next?
