I wasn’t lazy, I had burnout!!
There were times when even getting out of bed felt like too much. I’d stare at my to-do list and feel frozen. Not because I didn’t want to do anything, but because I didn’t have anything left in me to give. It wasn't exactly a choice, yet I kept calling it laziness. I thought I lacked discipline. But deep down, I knew I still cared. I still wanted to create, show up, feel fulfilled. I just couldn’t access the energy to act on it.
That’s not laziness. That’s burnout.
What helped was letting go of the “fix it” mentality. Instead of productivity hacks, I needed rest that actually counted. Instead of shaming myself, I started asking: “What do I need to feel safe again?”
So I rewrote my routines. I stopped using energy I didn’t have. And slowly, I started coming back. Not through force, but through softness. That’s what saved me.

Burnout is a common yet often misunderstood condition, affecting many individuals in today’s fast-paced lifestyle. It manifests as emotional exhaustion, decreased motivation, and a feeling of being overwhelmed, leading one to mislabel their circumstances as laziness. The OCR content highlights key realizations of someone experiencing burnout: feeling drained despite ample rest or avoiding work due to overwhelming feelings. To combat burnout, it's essential to prioritize mental health and well-being. This includes stepping back from the relentless pressure of to-do lists and embracing a more compassionate approach to self-care. Simple strategies like time-blocking for breaks, engaging in mindfulness practices, and allowing oneself the grace of unproductivity can significantly aid in recovery. Acknowledging personal limits and creating a supportive structure in life can foster healing and minimize feelings of guilt associated with taking time for oneself. Remember, it's not about productivity—all about finding balance and restoring your energy.
