4 ADHD tips I use to reduce overload 🙂‍↕️

2025/12/13 Edited to

... Read moreManaging ADHD-related overload can feel overwhelming, but adopting targeted strategies can make a real difference. One powerful approach is to recognize that the ADHD brain isn’t lazy—it’s simply overloaded. Many experience this overload as difficulty starting tasks, avoiding seemingly small tasks, or feeling exhausted even before the day begins. A useful tip for reducing this overload is to externalize your thoughts and decisions immediately. Instead of trying to remember or track everything mentally, use a trusted app or tool to dump your tasks and thoughts. This removes the mental burden and helps you gain clarity on what needs attention. For example, using an app like Saner can turn your notes into actionable daily plans so you preserve mental energy. Another key to managing ADHD overload is to pre-decide what 'good enough' looks like. High standards for every small task can cause excessive decision fatigue. By setting limits like 1-3 main priorities per day, you can focus on what truly matters and reduce the cognitive load. Structured micro-breaks are also beneficial. Working in short, timed intervals—such as 11 minutes of work followed by 3 minutes of rest—allows your brain to reset and prevents burnout. These low-effort breaks could involve a quick walk, hydration, or breathing exercises, which refresh your focus and energy. Finally, respecting the natural fluctuations in motivation is essential. Instead of forcing a uniform work pace, work when your inspiration peaks and pause or switch tasks when motivation dips. This wave-like approach aligns better with ADHD brain patterns and makes productivity feel more sustainable. By implementing these four strategies—externalizing tasks, simplifying priorities, taking micro-breaks, and riding motivational waves—you can significantly reduce the feeling of mental overload and improve productivity. Remember, these methods are about working with your brain’s natural tendencies, not against them.
