What we named our daughter✨
Our older son’s name is Micah so we wanted something that sounded nice with his name, and I think Maddie achieves that.
We also considered:
Blair: My whole pregnancy I was convinced we’d name her Blair, my friends and I always would call her baby Blair but once she was born I didn’t think the name fit her
Madelyn: I loved this name! But I wanted something shorter and something that fit better with her brother’s name
Anna: After my mom who passed when I was four
Marie: After my great grandma who raised me and my sisters
Sutton: I’ve always loved this name (ever watch The Lying Game??)
Her middle name is Ann Marie so I could still pay tribute to my mom and great grandma💗
Selecting a name for a child is a deeply personal and sometimes challenging journey. Many parents want a name that resonates with their family's history and flows well with existing children's names. For our daughter, we chose the name Maddie, which pairs beautifully with her brother Micah's name. In addition to Maddie, we explored several alternatives, each with its own significance. Blair was a favorite during my pregnancy; it felt modern and strong. However, upon her arrival, the name didn’t quite seem to fit. Madelyn was also on our list; I adored its elegance but desired something shorter for our little one. We also considered Anna, a tribute to my mother who passed away early in my life, and Marie, in honor of my beloved great-grandmother who played a pivotal role in my upbringing. Lastly, we thought about Sutton, a name that has always captivated me due to its uniqueness. Ultimately, we selected the name Maddie, paired with the middle name Ann Marie, which beautifully honors both my mother and grandmother. When picking a name, many parents feel the need to encapsulate their hopes, memories, and familial connections, making the significance even greater. This is a common consideration among parents today, as they navigate the emotional landscape of naming their children.
