Found this in my drafts... really emotional to look back at this moment. #preeclampsiaawareness #hellpsyndrome #nicumom #preemie
Holding my baby for the first time after a premature birth is something that no parent can ever forget. The experience is both emotional and nerve-wracking, especially when your little one arrives at 29 weeks and weighs just 3 pounds. In the NICU, kangaroo care—skin-to-skin contact—is an essential practice that helps strengthen the bond between mother and baby and supports the baby's development. When I held my baby for the first time five days after birth, I was overwhelmed by how fragile he seemed, hooked up to so many cords and monitors. The NICU nurses often used heated blankets to keep him warm when he was out of his isolette, which showed how delicate preemie care is. One of the most touching moments was hearing his tiny hiccups and realizing every little squeak was a sign of life and progress. As a NICU mom, the journey includes many highs and lows, but those quiet moments of skin-to-skin contact provide immense comfort and hope. It taught me never to take those minutes for granted and to cherish every chance to hold my baby close. This personal experience also increased my awareness of preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome, conditions that can lead to premature births. Sharing these moments allows others to understand the fragile beginnings and the strength required during this critical time.
