The pet cat is cooking.

You know how our cats always seem to be in the most unexpected places? Well, lately, my little fur-ball, Mittens, has developed a serious fascination with the kitchen! I mean, I posted about her 'cooking' earlier, but it’s more than just a one-off thing. It feels like every time I'm trying to whip up a meal, she's right there, observing my every move with those intense, curious eyes. It's like she's taking notes for her own gourmet venture! I've been wondering, why are cats so utterly obsessed with the kitchen? Is it the tantalizing smells of dinner bubbling on the stove? The warmth radiating from the oven? Or perhaps it’s just the sheer novelty of watching us humans perform complex tasks, trying to figure out if there’s a way they can 'help' – usually by getting underfoot or attempting to taste-test something before it's even ready! My friend Sarah told me her cat, Leo, actually tries to 'knead' the dough when she's baking. Imagine that! A furry little assistant chef, leaving paw prints in the bread. Mine usually just sits on the counter, surveying her domain, occasionally batting at a stray piece of pasta or trying to sniff the spices. I've learned to be really careful about hot surfaces, sharp knives, and especially toxic foods like onions, garlic, chocolate, and avocados. Even things like raw dough, alcohol, and caffeine can be really dangerous for them. It’s easy to get distracted, so I always make sure Mittens is either in another room or safely on her cat tree watching from afar when I’m dealing with anything risky. I also make sure to always put away food immediately and wipe down counters to remove any tempting crumbs or spills. To satisfy her inner chef safely, sometimes I'll give her a special 'kitchen toy' – like a catnip-filled mouse – to keep her occupied on the floor while I cook. Or, if I'm preparing something cat-safe (like plain cooked chicken or fish), I'll save a tiny, unseasoned bit for her as a special treat after I'm done cooking, rewarding her for being a 'good helper' without letting her near the dangerous stuff.
