Rare Beauty Foundation, is it worth it? ✨

2024/3/5 Edited to

... Read moreAfter sharing my honest review of the Rare Beauty Hydrating Moisturizer Foundation and my personal struggle with finding the perfect shade for my Accutane-induced dry skin, I wanted to dive deeper into some common questions you all might have. Many of you are asking, 'Is Rare Beauty foundation good?' and 'Does Rare Beauty have good coverage?' Let's uncover more details to help you decide if it's right for you. For my extremely dry skin, the Hydrating Moisturizer Foundation truly *melts into my skin*, leaving a beautiful, natural, and dewy finish. It feels incredibly comfortable, which is a huge win when your skin is parched. However, when it comes to coverage, I'd describe it as light-to-medium. It's fantastic for evening out redness and providing a healthy glow, but if you're experiencing a major 'makeup emergency' and need to cover significant blemishes or hyperpigmentation, you’ll likely need to *put concealer on top just to add that coverage*. It’s not a full-coverage powerhouse on its own, but it’s definitely buildable for those days when you want a little more. A significant query I noticed was, 'Is Rare Beauty foundation good for oily skin?' As my experience is with the hydrating formula, which is designed for dryness, it might not be the best choice if you struggle with excess oil. However, Rare Beauty also offers their Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation. While I haven't personally tried this one, many with oily skin rave about its lightweight, matte finish. It's often praised for controlling shine and offering medium-to-full coverage without feeling heavy or cakey. If you have oily skin, I’d highly recommend exploring the Weightless Foundation instead, and pairing it with a good mattifying primer and a setting powder to ensure it lasts throughout the day without breaking down. The hydrating version, with its luminous finish, would likely enhance shine on an oily complexion. Another common challenge, as I personally experienced, is that *color matching my skin was so hard*. It took me forever to find my perfect shade (180W)! My top tip is to always swatch shades on your jawline and let them sit for a few minutes. Foundation can oxidize and change color slightly, so waiting helps you see the true match in natural lighting. Don't be afraid to ask for samples if available, especially since it feels like a 'this is a makeup emergency' situation when you can't find your shade! Beyond coverage and skin type suitability, consider the longevity. For my dry skin, the hydrating formula lasts a solid 6-8 hours without looking cakey or clinging to dry patches – a huge relief. It also doesn't feel like I don't have any foundation on, which is a testament to its lightweight feel. And as a fun aside from my shopping trip, even though I didn't find my exact foundation shade in stock, I did discover their amazing blush in 'Grateful' – it's incredibly pigmented and a little goes a long way! Overall, Rare Beauty offers versatile options, proving you can find a great foundation no matter your skin type, as long as you pick the right formula.
