Lately life’s been a little overwhelming, and the biggest thing keeping me busy? Reno 🏠✨
Honestly… the whole renovation journey has been an emotional rollercoaster — from the first design ideas all the way to seeing the final outcome. As a first-time homeowner (and not the most artistic person 😅), I just wanted everything to be perfect for our first home.
Of course, along the way, my fiancé and I had our fair share of disagreements… and we had to learn to compromise A LOT.
It’s been an exhausting few months, but seeing everything slowly come together makes it all worth it 🥹
Here are a few lessons I’ve learned so far:
1. Have a vision (or at least try to)
We went for ID fairs and met a few designers thinking we’d figure things out along the way… but when they started asking questions, we realised we had no clear direction. That’s when we really started thinking about what we wanted.
2. Don’t set expectations too high
So many unexpected things will happen during reno. Timelines shift, ideas change, things don’t always turn out exactly how you imagined — and that’s okay.
3. Over-communicate everything
Your expectations, preferences, tiny details — say it all. It saves you from a lot of misalignment and stress later on.

Keeping a renovation journal or using shared digital notes helped us track changes and decisions effectively. Beyond the stressful moments, watching the spaces come to life—from the fresh new living area to our cozy master bedroom—brought immense satisfaction. Each completed room symbolized progress and motivated us to keep going. If you are embarking on your renovation, remember that it’s perfectly okay for things to not go as planned. Delays and changes happen, but the reward is creating a home that's truly yours. Focus on steady progress, maintain open communication, and keep your vision adaptable. These strategies significantly eased our emotional rollercoaster and turned the chaos into a sanctuary. Lastly, don’t hesitate to celebrate small wins during the process. Sharing photos of your evolving spaces with friends or social communities can provide encouragement and fresh inspiration. After all, every beautifully renovated corner is a testament to your perseverance and creativity.
