My Typical work day!
Hey! I know working isn’t something everyone wants to do but it sometimes has to be done. For me I think of it as the harder I work the more money I make and the more things I will be able to do and afford!
It took me a long time to realize that saving money and not spending every cent you make is so important. Emergency funds for if you get in an accident or your phone gets broken or you total your car. There are so many possibilities for things to happen that could cost you a lot of money and it’s a great thing if you already have that money saved!
I waitress At night 5-11 and I work at Giant in the produce 7-2. I am not an early bird and I still do it because more hours = more hourly pay = more money. I come home and take a nap after Giant before going to my restaurant to work my night shift!
My pay checks I split 30% into my checking and 70% go straight to my savings. Any cash tips I get that I keep I put into a big jar in my room along with any change I have. It’s a great split because I’m saving my cash for things I want and spending money and my 70% into my savings is going towards things like rent and things for college. The 30% I spend on gas mostly but also food and things I do with my friends!
As a college student working part-time jobs, understanding the financial landscape is crucial. Many students face the challenge of ensuring they have enough money to cover expenses like tuition, rent, and groceries. In this context, creating an emergency fund is essential. Even small amounts saved can provide a buffer against unexpected expenses such as car repairs or medical bills. Additionally, managing time effectively is key. Students often find themselves converting hours spent in class to hours spent working. A typical day might start early, working in retail or food service, then shifting to study responsibilities or social activities in the evening. Utilizing strategies such as splitting incomes into savings and spending can significantly enhance financial stability. Moreover, participating in challenges, such as the #lemon8challenge, can motivate students to share their experiences and learn from one another. This interactive approach not only builds community but also fosters a supportive environment where individuals can swap financial tips and work-life balance strategies. Ultimately, sharing your journey through platforms like Lemon8 can inspire others in similar situations, promoting a culture of transparency and encouragement.
