Getting a new ear piercing, especially a third one, is such an exciting milestone! I know the feeling of wanting to treat yourself after working hard, and a new piercing is a fantastic way to do it. For anyone considering their own third earlobe piercing or looking to expand their ear stack, here are some tips and insights based on my experience and what I've learned! Choosing Your Third Piercing: When it comes to a third ear piercing, the placement is key. Most people opt for a third lobe piercing, just above their second one, to create a beautiful stacked look. This is often an earlobe piercing, which tends to be less painful and has an easier healing process compared to cartilage piercings. I chose a small, simple stud for my new piercing, which is perfect for the initial healing phase. You can see a close-up of an ear with three piercings, featuring a silver bow-shaped earring, a sparkling hoop earring, and a newly done simple stud – it’s a great example of how different styles can come together. Pain and Healing Expectations: Let's be real, piercings can pinch a little! From my experience, a third lobe piercing is generally less painful than a cartilage piercing, more like a quick, sharp squeeze. The real work begins with aftercare. Healing time for earlobe piercings can range from 6 weeks to 3 months, but it's crucial to keep it clean and avoid snagging it. I’ve been diligently cleaning mine twice a day with saline solution. It’s important to leave your initial jewelry in until it’s fully healed to prevent closure or complications. Patience is definitely a virtue here! Earrings for Third Piercings & Stacked Lobe Ideas: Once your third piercing is healed, the fun truly begins – choosing your earrings! For a stacked lobe, you can get really creative. I love the idea of mixing different styles, like a delicate silver bow-shaped earring in the first hole, a sparkling hoop earring in the second, and then a meaningful initial stud in the third. Some popular choices for third piercing earrings include tiny studs, dainty hoops, or even small charms. You can create a cohesive look by sticking to one metal color or mix and match for an eclectic vibe. For a truly unique look, consider a staggered placement or even adding an upper ear piercing later on for more dimension. Cost of a Third Ear Piercing: Many people wonder, "how much is a third ear piercing?" The cost can vary quite a bit depending on your location, the studio's reputation, and the type of jewelry you choose. Generally, expect to pay anywhere from $30 to $80 for the piercing itself, not including the jewelry. High-quality, hypoallergenic jewelry (like surgical steel or titanium) is essential for healing and can add to the overall cost. Always choose a reputable piercer who uses sterile equipment and follows strict hygiene protocols. Aftercare Tips for Your New Piercing: Effective aftercare is paramount for a smooth healing process. Here’s what I’m doing: Clean daily: Use a sterile saline solution (not rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide) twice a day. Gently spray or soak a cotton swab and clean around the front and back of the piercing. Avoid touching: Resist the urge to twist, turn, or play with your new piercing. This introduces bacteria and can irritate the healing tissue. Be gentle: When washing your hair or sleeping, be mindful of your ear. Sleeping on a travel pillow can help prevent pressure on the new piercing. If you have dark hair like mine, make sure it doesn't constantly rub against it. Watch for signs of infection: Redness, swelling, excessive pain, or pus are signs to consult your piercer or a doctor. I’m so excited to see my new piercing heal and eventually style it with my other earrings. Having three piercings on my ear creates such a chic and personalized look. If you're thinking about getting one, I say go for it!
